Hamerhack Posted August 28, 2012 Posted August 28, 2012 I've been giving my brother guitar lessons. He comes over and searches YouTube for potential songs he might want to try. Lately he's been watching Alvin Lee's "I'm Going Home"! Uh oh! That means I have to learn it! (Even if he's not ready for it).The first time I saw Woodstock I couldn't believe it, but in all these years I still haven't tackled this fleet fingered frenzy. Is it within the realm of possibility? Can you play it? Ever perform it at a gig or jam? How long did it take you to learn?
diablo175 Posted August 28, 2012 Posted August 28, 2012 Good luck with that! Over the last 24 years I've tried to learn/play along with I'd Love to Change the World but could never seem to approach Alvin's blistering yet soulful chops. Dude was ahead of his time. Truly underrated.
MCChris Posted August 28, 2012 Posted August 28, 2012 It's a blues with ripping pentatonics played over it, so nothing revolutionary or groundbreaking from a musical standpoint. As is the case with trying to learn another player's songs, however, the hard part is mastering all the nuances in phrasing and note choice.
kizanski Posted August 28, 2012 Posted August 28, 2012 ...mastering all the nuances in phrasing and note choice....and one of the most maniacal guitar faces in history.http://youtu.be/ZRV6fwUZwBk
RichRS6 Posted August 28, 2012 Posted August 28, 2012 One of the first things I ever (tried) to learn to play.Never bothered trying to learn it note for note after the first couple of bars as Chris said it's mostly pentatonic twiddling and my guess is it was mostly improvised anyhow.
