kurtsstuff Posted October 28, 2005 Posted October 28, 2005 I got this guitar in a trade and have absolutley no use for a flying V..It's there take on a 58 V reissue..stamped 2nd on the back of headstock but would'nt know why...plays great and with some electronics upgrades and such it would make a killer guitar. Epiphone logo has been removed from the headstock so you can fool the drunks in the crowd hehe..Comes in a Gibson V case and can be all your's for $350.00 shipped Oh yeah...trades always welcome
kurtsstuff Posted October 28, 2005 Author Posted October 28, 2005 back of the neck looks wierd in the pic but...it's normal..
guitfiddler Posted October 28, 2005 Posted October 28, 2005 That is the "buy of the year," and if it isn't gone already.... it should be.I have 2 of them myself (one is for sale since I bought my Hamer Korina Vector,) and I can tell by looking at the body that the serial number probably starts with 98 or 97. I upgraded the p/ups & electronics on both. These excellent playing (better with a fret leveling) korina V's were made by Samick under contract to Epiphone until 1999, when someone else started making them. The wierd look and mis-matched finish color on back of the neck (near headstock) is merely a scarf-jointed neck (it is a maple neck, extremely resonant.) With the new maker the dimensions changed slightly, and the formerly gorgeous graining and finish color of this one (korina veneer, on pieced korina) changed to a yucky sort-of mustardy yellow. The tuners will need to be upgraded, as one or two on each of mine buzzed loudly in sympathy with the string being played, and imitated a really bad truss-rod vibration (others have reported the same problem). In fact if I didn't already have my 2, I would snatch this one today, and do the same thing Frank Marino does with his SG's.... remove pickguard & electronics, rout in the middle for a Strat pickup, have custom pickguard made to hold 3 Strat pickups and do the controls just like a Strat (replace the switch with a 5-way Strat switch. Don't laugh, if you haven't heard Frank Marino's guitar tone.... like on his version of Crossroads, Voodoo Chile', Red House etc. etc. Something specially delicious about Strat p'ups on mahogany/korina.

tomteriffic Posted November 2, 2005 Posted November 2, 2005 Dang, wish I liked Vee's. I'd have grabbed it and saved you the solder and the partz. Cool and inexpensive as it is, it'd only be a wallhanger for me, tho....

I have a brand new master volume fully populated turret board that can be installed and all that would be needed is Preamp tube sockets and control pots..Heres a pic or 2
kurtsstuff Posted November 8, 2005 Author Posted November 8, 2005 Well...this post kinda got away from the original subject...Ok...hows this...I'll sell the New Burstbuckers and tuning heads for $400.00 shipped and throw in the guitar they are currently installed in along with the case...hehe
Brownsound Posted November 8, 2005 Posted November 8, 2005 I spoke to the Epi rep that was visiting the local dealer. I asked him if Epi used ply or laminate woods and he told me they are all "genuine" wood but I have heard that some people have seen some Epis that were basically plywood. Are thes Korina Epis real solid Korina?

These are all solid wood..is it one piece of wood?? no..but a great playing and sounding guitar that I just can't bond with...I have a phobia of anything shaped like or resembling a fork ever since that farm tractor with a hay fork accident back in the.....oh wait.....umm.....nevermind!!! hehe

How much are you asking for it? The Turret board is from Metropoulos amps (good stuff) and I too have not been able to find anything related to these amps..I don't think a schematic would be of any use anyways in this case? You would basically be building a Marshall 2203 master volume amp which is what the turret and parts used on it are specifically for...$200.00 shipped for all of it...The turret boards to buy are $185.00 alone
