carfish7 Posted May 19, 2013 Posted May 19, 2013 http://www.williesguitars.com/index.cfm/home/1/newlisting/8/image/3I played this one yesterday and it was pretty nice. Had that unmistakable "ring" to it. Might be a tad overpriced, but hey - it's Willie's.Why do some of these end up with the dark border around the edges where the veneer meets the body? Makes it look bound but it is not.
kizanski Posted May 19, 2013 Posted May 19, 2013 Might be a tad overpriced... ...understatement of the year.
carfish7 Posted May 19, 2013 Author Posted May 19, 2013 Might be a tad overpriced......understatement of the year. But it's WILLIES!!!!! Do you not understand the fact that this is a VINTAGE guitar store? With pictures of famous people on the walls? And stuff?!?

sixesandsevens Posted May 19, 2013 Posted May 19, 2013 For a second I was worried I was getting priced out of the used Hamer market.
Carl.B Posted May 19, 2013 Posted May 19, 2013 Might be a tad overpriced......understatement of the year. But it's WILLIES!!!!! Do you not understand the fact that this is a VINTAGE guitar store? With pictures of famous people on the walls? And stuff?!?I have been in Willie once about 5 years ago. They had some nice stuff and rotten customer service. I was ready to buy a 1995 Hamer Artist they had for $1500 then they wanted $200 for the case! Walked out with out saying a word and haven't been back since.
crunchee Posted May 19, 2013 Posted May 19, 2013 Anybody remember when Tombo bought a used Hamer USA Archtop GT (Gold Top) there a few years back? I can't remember if it was B & C'd, or a dotneck...but Willie's had it for a good price (as in not outrageous), it was in excellent condition, and they were selling it for LESS than a used mid '90's Hamer USA Special in TV Yellow that they had. I wouldn't classify Willie's as Hamer experts by a long shot.
carfish7 Posted May 19, 2013 Author Posted May 19, 2013 Funny thing is they had a similar Special but in worse shape for $1300 for a spell - it's gone. Also, they have been trying to sell a very nice Superpro for about a year @ like $2250 - gone!Either they came down on the price or finally found someone to pony up.I used to work there and will say that Nate is a very fine gentleman who REALLY knows his stuff, but they seem to have changed recently. They used to be a Hamer dealer back in the day, and know a fair mount about them, but tend to be all over the map with their used prices. I was set to buy a used '81 Special there last year that had just come out - tagged at $899 and it was VERY nice. I remember telling them that I had been looking for a clean original Special and they were somewhat hard to find in that shape. Went home, called back and asked about layaway, and was told the price was now $1200! I probably should have kept the old pie-hole shut..........Have been back only a couple times since.
kizanski Posted May 19, 2013 Posted May 19, 2013 Partyin' like it's still 2006, aren't they? Yeah, they're a bit stuck in the Way Back Machine on their pricing, but not even then (or ever) have I seen a checkerboard Special go for that kind of money.
