Installing Lollars/Changing SD P90s

Montelovesco

Question

First of all, I got a record breaker here: These are, I guess, the only Lollars P90 with a frequent traveller membership. The longest distance Lollars ever.

Bought them from triodecr (once again: Thank you for your patience), he shipped them to the address paypal gave him, which was wrong (my fault), they came back, he sended them again, this time to the right address, but I was in the states and couldn't pick 'em up (my fault again), and the Germans sended them back again, he shipped the PUs the third time, and now they are here. Hurray.

But...

I wanted to install them tonight and ripped out the Duncans just to learn that the Lollars are as half as high as the SD P90s. In other words: the pickup routing is to deep, the Lollars just fall in.

Maybe I am overseeing something, but anyway: Any experts here who can tell me what to do? Longer screws? Guess no. Some piece of wood or cardboard in the the cavity? Sending the Lollars back is NOT an option, by the way... :-)

Any help is much appreciated - I want to HEAR these things!

Have you tried foam inserts?

Those are commonly used on Jazzmasters, with some Filtertrons, etc. I know that TV Jones sells precut strips, but it's nothing you can't buy somewhere else for 1/100th of the cost.

Yup. Foam and/or springs between the pickup and bottom of the pickup rout. Longer screws if necessary.

Daniel, what guitar are you putting them in? I had them installed in an Artist with the stock screws and springs and had no problems. I don't recall how close I had them adjusted to the strings. The only Duncan P90 that I know of that would be taller would be the SP90-3 and it's only taller by about 3mm due to the larger ceramic magnets.

@myself: Think, boy. THINK! The springs are missing! Thats it!

Thanks for your support... The guy I got the Vanguard from (CL, Canada, nice guy) must have missed that... And the the screw holes are completely worn out. But I will fix both. I can. Because I am a man. Blubber blubber... :-)

I thought you wanted only to have the PUs travelling worlwide...without giving the same chance to the Springs...

You do this installation in the Vanguard and not in your Special ?

Will it keep your original boost ?

Good installation work...

The PUs will go into the Vangaurd - for now. The Special is good as she is. And yes, I will keep the original boost. A nice little tool, even if the handling can be tricky...
