merman9393 Posted January 25, 2015 Posted January 25, 2015 I have a Phantom in need of a complete Trem Bar for the Sustain Block Tremolo System. I may have the correct Bar, but no bushing or screw down etc. Steve mentioned I could modify a Floyd Bar to work, and I will be meeting with my tech to look through his drawer and see what's necessary soon, but willing to pay a premium for the real deal to complete this classic.Until then, would love to see a detailed pic of that bushing etc. Thanks in Advance.
ARM OF HAMER Posted January 25, 2015 Posted January 25, 2015 Try Here. http://www.fretsonthenet.com/Fender/hamer.htm
velorush Posted January 25, 2015 Posted January 25, 2015 Here's the best I've got of the trem area of my old '83 (I wish I had back): I don't know if any of those show what you're looking for, but those are the best I have showing the trem area. In the last one you can see the bushing (neoprene, IIRC) under the top nut. The first one shows a similar nut on the bottom of the arm. I can't remember if there was a bushing down there, too, but probably.
velorush Posted January 25, 2015 Posted January 25, 2015 Ah ha! Found one more with the bushing in plain view: ETA, if you could find a bar it would be easy enough to go to your local parts store and get the rest.
serial Posted January 25, 2015 Posted January 25, 2015 Next to impossible to find these for some reason. You have to drill out the arm hole in the baseplate a little, but the collared Floyd arms are a big improvement.
merman9393 Posted January 25, 2015 Author Posted January 25, 2015 Thanks for quick replies! I have bought several parts from "Frets on the Net" but he couldn't do any thing on this one.The posted pics are great,.. Going to help a lot. We will see if we can mod a Floyd so I can leave Sustain Block as is.
albacore Posted January 25, 2015 Posted January 25, 2015 I have mine blocked and probably have no further use for the trem so I may let you have the arm if you don't want to do all of the drilling out.
crunchee Posted January 25, 2015 Posted January 25, 2015 Those trem arms on the old Sustain Block trems are a PITA to install due to the bolt-on design IMO, which might explain why they're not often found separately. If your case allows enough clearance to leave the arm on the guitar while it's in the case, then you're golden. If it doesn't, you either have to leave the guitar out of the case, or unbolt the arm and repeat when necessary.

Mine was causing trouble with closing the case, but required tools and quite a bit of fiddling to dismantle.
merman9393 Posted January 25, 2015 Author Posted January 25, 2015 Having an issue embedding photos,...http://instagram.com/p/yS0tIjQolb/But I do have the original case for this Phantom A7, and, when I insert the bar, it closes just fine. However, it's possible that when the bushing is also installed it may increase the height too much.I did see a light imprint on the case lining of the tremolo bar exactly where I had it.I'm a patient guy, and I'd rather not modify the bridge if possible. But absolutely appreciate all the advice,... Never thought about an issue about closing the case, but I see that is something to consider.
merman9393 Posted January 26, 2015 Author Posted January 26, 2015 Thank you for posting pic for me,... Great members here at HFC !
