elduave Posted May 2, 2015 Posted May 2, 2015 What do the two outer hex screws on the bridge adjust? Thanks!
cynic Posted May 2, 2015 Posted May 2, 2015 I think what you're talking about are anchors that screw into bushings in the body of the guitar. Maybe a carry-over from the string-thru days before they added the additional screws.
elduave Posted May 2, 2015 Author Posted May 2, 2015 So, the screws in the face of the bridge plate *and* the two cylinder things outside the E and G saddles all work to secure the bridge to the body? Sorry if I don't quite follow...
Steve Haynie Posted May 2, 2015 Posted May 2, 2015 They always made me think they were there to stop any sideways movement by the bridge saddles. You can always ask at the Music Man forum. Sterling Ball participates there, and he was one of the people Leo Fender asked for feedback on the prototype Music Man basses. He was sort of in on the design.
tbonesullivan Posted May 4, 2015 Posted May 4, 2015 The original stingrays were string-through body, and those two big allen bolts were what held the bridge to the body, aside from string pressure. In the early 80s when they got rid of the string through body construction, they went to three anchor bolts, which were needed as now ALL of the string tension was on the bridge. You can go here to find out more than you ever wanted to know about MusicMan bridges: http://www.musicmanbass.org/mycustompage0004.htm
