Sold locally. Thanks for playing!

Just throwing this out there, I'll get pics up tomorrow. I'll be listing this locally but I thought I'd give first crack to you guys.

EDIT: Here's the pics, as threatened.

Nekkid toes in the last pic optional extra.

The Basic Black was the darling of the bass combo world of the 1990's. It was the predecessor to the Workingman's series, which, some say SWR cheaped out on. Don't know, never had one. Original street price was around $750 in 1990's dollars.

The good:

120 watts into a very efficient 15" (+horn tweeter) speaker. Lots of sound out for a watt in. Speaker and cabinet are tuned to 40Hz (low E on the typical bass). 160 watts when used with an extension. You'll want that if you intend to bring teh brootalz on stage. But it's fine for smaller ensemble gigs, amplified practice, etc. or if you just want to have a good small-to-middlin' bass amp around.

Tube preamp that will give up that Ampeg-ish growl when needed.

3-band active EQ and Aural Enhancer. The enhancer works at different frequencies than the EQ so there's a lot of flexibility there.

Parallel FX loop. Jacks can also be used as an additional line out or sound source in.

Independent tuner and balanced DI out. Switch to turn the tweeter on and off or to turn off the speaker completely for headphone use. In all, the features and conveniences you'd want in a modern bass combo.

The manual sez 50 lbs. Birch ply cabinet. I'm a 63 year old weenie and I just dead-lifted it over a pile of PA gear. I think it may be less than 50. In any event, it's very luggable, with spring-loaded handles on each side.

The bad/ugly:

It has the black carpet "rat fur" covering. It picks up every little speck of dust and crud. And there's no getting it out of there completely. I'll do the best I can on it, it's not hateful now.

Some time early in its life, some bozo (not me) put a couple of cigarette burns in the top. It has been stored out in the garage most of its life since then (15-20 years) so there doesn't seem to be any leftover smoke stank.

The other:

As noted, it spent a lot of time in storage. I've used in on, like, two gigs in the past year or so. Before that, I went through and cleaned the pots and jacks. I just now checked the functions and rattled all the other crap in the garage with it. It did just fine.

I'm only selling it to move to something better suited to my acoustic bass guitar, as I seem to be going out with that more and more.

I really don't want to ship this. It's not hateful, size or weight-wise, but it'd still be a chunk of change to do. We can talk. On the other hand, if you know what this is, try to find another one in comparable condition. I'm always up for an HFC meet 'n' greet and would drive a couple of hours for a meet-up/hand-off.

I need to clear $250 out of it, don't need any trades right now.

What a deal!

It is possible to "touch up" carpet covered amps and cabs by getting a $10 clothing shaver. Those are what you use to remove "pills" from fabric. They sell them with all the laundry tools and supplies at K-Mart. Using one evenly and lightly will make a carpet covered amp look good again. There will be a noticeable "haircut", though.

Or a old disposable razor works incredibly well. Though haven't tried it on an amp. Can only vouch for use on a knit cap. ;)

If I hadn't already picked up a rig for bass (and across the country) I'd be on this. Love the old SWR stuff, I still have an Electric Blue head. If I went back to playing bass in a band, I'd be on the lookout for a SWR rig.

I use to mix a bit at local clubs, on the house p.a.---- Some of the coolest (really great tone-no problem stage volume-and easy to mix) players, were sporting the medium to small swr rigs. I've got a "Baby Blue 2" that is wonderful. Highly recommend the SWR approach.

How is this still here? If I was closer Tom, I'd buy it just to give it a new home. Pretty sure you're not going to want to meet halfway between you and Virginia ;)
