Amplitube on iPad--how do I connect?

I have Amplitube on my iPad, and I assume you connect the guitar cable to the headphone jack via a 1/4" to 1/8" adapter. However, I cannot figure out how to change the input in Amplitube from "external microphone" to "headphone jack." Can this be done?

You have to buy a specialized input device. There is some inexpensive things like the irig or irig 2. Or more expensive devices that use the lightning input.   Some audio devices that use the USB can work with the iPad if you buy a USB adapter from Apple.

Lots of companies make them I K multimedia , Apogee, focusrite , and more .

The iPhone Jack is a three prong Jack with two lines for stereo out on one line for mic in.  You can trick it with the right cable but the quality is pretty bad.

I haven't found a way to choose the input yet. If you find it please let us know

If you're using Amplitube, and you want to use it for your rig, get the iRig HD.  The iRig (non HD) will use the headphone jack, but it makes a lot of noise.  Always use gates with your patches.

Maybe I want it to do something it wasn't designed to do. I thought I could use it as a portable mini-amplifier. I just want to plug my guitar in, and have the "Amplitude" sound come out of the speakers.

You can def do that. The iRig is about $30 new, and super cheap used. Try that first.

I don't recommend for any kind of performance, but works fine on ipad and iPhone for practice, etc. but there is low noise and latency. If you end up loving the software or interface, you can easily upgrade to the HD or apogee.
