Jake8773 Posted January 25, 2017 Posted January 25, 2017 Thorn SoCal RS Enormous tone machine! SSS Config with Thorn's masterful hand wound 66 pickups. The '66 set is a step-up in output with increased mids and a thicker overall tone. Slightly less quack than the '57s, the '66 are truly at home driving a Blackface or British amp for classic to modern rock and Texas blues. In addition, this guitar has a humbucker function-tone pot 'splits' to run bridge and middle in a series for huge PAF sounds. Incredible fretboard and impeccable quality. It has amazing tone woods with the requisite tone to match! So the story on this guitar is pretty cool. It's a one of a kind, ordered to spec to match a guitar the [original] customer had built in Italy by a company called Eko. Thorn built this to match the finish and appointments -bound neck, gold flake and the pickguard based on a picture sample from the OC. Ron took the time to send me the picture of the Eko so I have it if anyone wants to see the "inspiration". So, it's a total one off build which IMO is really sweet. Plays and sounds amazing. Same day I received this guitar I compared it to a Custom Shop Fender Strat and this blows it away. Body: Korina Neck: Maple Fretboard: Bound Dark Madagascar Rosewood -almost black gorgeous!Neck carve: Med/Fat .850/.930 Radius: 10"-14" compound Fretwire: 6105 Pickups: Thorn "Pasadena '66" Side output jack Gold Mother of Pearl Face dots White neck binding Patented neck attachment Frets don't come to the sides of fretboard Adjustable tremolo arm height Innovative Thorn truss rod tool Locking tuners Weight is just under 9lbs and has all the tone to back it up Couple of real minor headstock dings otherwise flawless. HFC Price is $2250 or I may trade for a Tally or other great Hamer so don't be shy.
Ting Ho Dung Posted January 27, 2017 Posted January 27, 2017 So he finished the maple neck in black? I don't know if I've ever seen that. Cool guitar. I know a guy named Thorn.
Jake8773 Posted January 28, 2017 Author Posted January 28, 2017 Here's the picture Ron (Thorn) sent me Normally they do not paint necks but this is a one off as I said above to match this ah... Beauty?
