mahogany. Deluxes use alder, and some Elites are maple; to ID those, just look at the sick AAAAA flame or quilt going straight through the whole body

how can I know if it's a elite or a deluxe?

can I somehow find out if it's maple or mahogny in the body when I got solid paint?

yours is almost certainly mahogany. Deluxes have EMG pickups, ebony fretboards, and boomerangs only at the 3rd and 12th frets, and offset dots elsewhere, plus I don't think they made deluxes until 1990 or so (could be wrong on that).

maple bodies were always some sort of transparent finish to show off the incredible figuring of the maple.

If you still need further confirmation, take a look at the screw holes for the backplates under bright light. dark brown= mahogany, very light=alder.

But I'd put hella money on your '88 being mahogany.

Elite.....

Off hold, by the way....

Is that listed on your site somewhere? Last time you posted a pic I'd tried to find it but was unable to

What were the base model Calis called (dot inlays, bolt on, mahogany body)? Were they just called the plain old Californian?

I think at first they were. But they became the Californian Standard (not to be confused with another model with an Explorer body shape  )
