dmometalguitar Posted January 19, 2019 Posted January 19, 2019 Hi everyone, I joined this forum a couple of years ago, and the information here has been incredibly helpful for me to buy a vintage Hamer. I got a really nice Hamer Phantom from the 80s, which I wanted to share with you guys. Recently I uploaded a video where I matched the Iron Maiden guitar tone using my Hamer, in a four-track recording. The bright/crisp sound of my Hamer was a perfect match for the Iron Maiden tone.
Travis Posted January 19, 2019 Posted January 19, 2019 Very cool video and killer Phantom you've got there. I wanted one of those back in the day and had a lead on one but never pulled the trigger...
mathman Posted January 19, 2019 Posted January 19, 2019 Sounds good. Just to let you know, I shared your video on KVR.com. There was a post about a amp sim review website and they trashed Bias FX. I recently have started using it more. I've used Amplitube for years and I really like it but I got a free version of Bias FX and it sounds really good. I like the sound of most of the effects better than Amplitube. I like their amps fairly equally. Anyway, you should get a few extra views.
dmometalguitar Posted January 24, 2019 Author Posted January 24, 2019 Thanks Travis and Mathman! Mathman, regarding Amplitube, in terms of creating my own custom tones, I had better results with Amplitube, particularly the Powerball amp - a real metal machine - with the 4 x 12 Metal T1 cab. But I think what Positive Grid has done with Bias Amp is quite revolutionary. Never in a million years I would image that someday I would be jamming along my favorite records with the actual sound of the guitarists I like. Also, I had good results using a matched tone as a starting point for my own tone. I'd say balancing the pros and cons, Bias FX is a winner.
mathman Posted January 24, 2019 Posted January 24, 2019 Yea, I am liking where Positive Grid is going with Bias FX. I've used the multitrack files to learn and try to recreate tracks for some songs. It is a lot of fun. I mute the guitar track and try to match the tone using the same or as close as possible amp and effects in amplitube that the artist used. It is really cool to have some many amps and effects available at any time. They are not exact but fairly close. Here is bye bye love by the cars. My vocals and guitar tracks, Cars for bass, drum and keys. http://kirkpitts.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/01/byebye-love-cars-with-keys-7_19_17-8.49-AM.m4a I redid more of this one.
dmometalguitar Posted January 28, 2019 Author Posted January 28, 2019 I haven't heard that RHCP song in probably 25 years!!! Takes me back to the early 90s. Very cool recording! The Cars song is great too. I like the atmospheric vibe of the guitar.
Biz Prof Posted January 28, 2019 Posted January 28, 2019 Very nice and accurate take on the PoM/Powerslave era Maiden guitar tone. I actually found that tone to be my favorite out of Maiden's first seven albums. Like Mick Mars' tone on the first two Crue records, it is mid-range-heavy, highly distorted without getting fuzzy or flabby, and it just sounds right in the context of those songs/that era.

So right on old Crue! I often play the first one. No heavy production, just a real raw sound, like watching them play in someone's garage. Perfect for their tunes back then! Also, nice job OP on the cool tones!

Thanks for your feedback. I appreciate it. Powerslave is my all-time favorite metal record, and it's great that you also like their guitar tone in that era. Their guitar tones in the early days had a lot of personality. Although I like some of their recent albums, I think their guitar tones now sound a bit generic (for lack of a better word).
