Travis Posted March 24, 2005 Posted March 24, 2005 What do you guys think? With the right pickups in there pushing the right amp, do you think a korina bodied guitar could be a formidable shredder? I mean, mahogany guitars are great for that type of music in my opinion. Anyone ever try it?
Nuclear Wessel Posted March 24, 2005 Posted March 24, 2005 I don't see why not. Isn't there a korina Virtuoso out there somewhere?Eddie Van Halen had a korina bodied Ibanez Destroyer in the late 70's that he has said had incredible tone.
Jeff R Posted March 24, 2005 Posted March 24, 2005 Travis, korina is a variety of mahogany and if mahogany works for a Cali or a Chap, korina should work just fine too. I'd think the main benefit would be lighter in weight, a little more resonance and substantially higher on the "wowwee" scale.
AdmiralB Posted March 24, 2005 Posted March 24, 2005 Eddie Van Halen had a korina bodied Ibanez Destroyer in the late 70's that he has said had incredible tone. Those weren't really korina. They were ash, IIRC, stained to look like korina.
black magic Posted March 25, 2005 Posted March 25, 2005 Travis, I have seen a special matching set of Jacksons in all Korina with 2 EMG`s, I almost wet myself!! Soloist-Rhoads-King V and Kelly. I would have loved to get the Soloist, but it sold in seconds!! Jack.
Travis Posted March 25, 2005 Author Posted March 25, 2005 I'm thinking about a custom 24 fret, short scale korina XTRR. With dual Duncan Distoritons, of course.
Brewmaster Posted March 25, 2005 Posted March 25, 2005 Korina is an excellent tone wood, sonically similar to mahgany but with more snap on the top end IMO. I think a shredder would really like this wood.
