WTB: Bridge Pickup for a Sunburst

Recommended Posts

I recently recorded a quick demo with my band. For one of the solos I used my '81 Sunburst. The guitar (as far as I can tell) is all original except for the bridge pickup. Halfway into the solo, I switch from the bridge pickup to the neck pickup. When I listened back, the second half done with the neck pickup was full and rich sounding. However, the first half sounded thin and reminded me of a cheap Kramer my buddy had. Does anyone have a bridge pickup from a Sunburst or Standard from around that time that they'd like to part with? If not, any suggestions for a new pickup that would do my Sunburst some justice?

Thanks in advance,

It's easy to find a bridge pickup for one of those, call BCR Greg, he's got a drawer full of them.

BUT... People changed them out for a reason. They didn't really sound that swift and the ones I've met were pretty thin and harsh sounding. Admittedly the three originals I've met were a '79 and 2 '82's and they did change slightly over time. Two good suggestions for a good match/contrast with the neck pickup are the Rio BBQ Bucker and the Duncan Custom 5.

I like the DiMarzio PAF Pro or Virtual PAF in that application. Just a bit more volume and fullness than the original without sounding too "different". Available in period correct double cream too!

I have real ones. None of that nancy "virtual" stuff that those babyfaced stylemongers use!!!!

Just kidding, Badger.

Anyway, I have some original pickups, no problem. I have plenty of alternatives as well.

Man, I don't know-the best bridge pickups I've ever had were in a '77 Sunburst and a '79 Sunburst-both were original Dimarzio PAFs. They had "something".
