devrock Posted January 31, 2023 Posted January 31, 2023 Scored a nice RG last year at a local pawn shop for $100. It was a disaster, but a perfect rebuild candidate. I removed the old pickguard and wiring, cut a new PG and wired her up with Dimarzios. It felt a little more complicated than what I’m used to. Anyway, I plug her in and…it works! However, there are two issues where I’m stumped. One, the volume does not turn off at 0. Second, there is static ONLY when plucking a string. It’s not a ground issue (I don’t think) since touching or removing my hand from the strings or bridge has no effect. There’s no static until a string is plucked. Help!! (EDIT: I checked the vol pot ground for a cold joint and re-soldered it, but problem still there.) Possible I simply got the pot too hot? I have more coming tomorrow.
specialk Posted January 31, 2023 Posted January 31, 2023 No idea what you're asking, but it's a cool pic.
duncans Posted January 31, 2023 Posted January 31, 2023 static could be a humidity thing, some Teles do that in the winter. Try a dryer sheet rubbed on the pickguard. Grounding the pickguard to the rest of the grounding scheme should work too. Volume pot wiring looks ok, you may have gotten it too warm and burned the trace.

devrock Posted February 1, 2023 Author Posted February 1, 2023 I burned out the volume pot (not the first time). It works now. Mods, please lock.
