Gibson Custombuckers?

Recently picked up a 2022 Les Paul Standard in a mega trade. The previous owner replaced the original pups (I think they were stock '61s) with a set of Custombuckers that he purchased right from Gibson. I was planning on gigging with this guitar so I immediately replaced them with my go-to favs. I don't know anything about Custombuckers but I've read up a little on them and they seen to be very well received. My question is ... has anyone tried these pups? I usually prefer hot, high output pups, but I may stick them in something and give them a try ...

Custombuckers are cool,  think they're 7.8 to 8k in the bridge.   I find that I have to bump the

pickup height and pole pieces to give it a little more thump.    I have one historic that I swapped

with OX4 Ed King's and the other has the stock (2018 custom buckers) both sound cool.   

I am not sure I would go $500 or whatever they sell retail for custom buckers as I like to stay in

the 200 ish range for pickups...       check the forums,  you might get a better deal on a gently used

set.

Hey @DaveL, Thanks for the info. I have the set  that were in this guitar. The neck and bridge both read 8.1K. Just trying to get a review on them to decide if I want to keep them or move them along ... BTW nice R0 !!!

Thanks Len,    one more comment after I thought about it...   

 

   if you got them with the guitar then great... if you end up not liking them they're worth some decent money 

on the used market...   but here's my comment.    They're nice and warm which I like  (particularly with that Korina

V I have...   beautiful creamy distortion)    BUT... if the guitar you have them in doesn't have enough cut or bite,  they might come

across as a tiny bit anemic or flubby,  you can usually dial in a little ooomph with the pole pieces.   The Ox4's are a little bright,

but they have nice tight punchy chording  (I play alot of powerpop and pop punk and for that it works nice).     The Custom Buckers

in my Korina V are just perfect...    Not a pickup expert (I don't fiddle with magnet swaps etc) but I think I have a reasonably

good ear...    

 

 BTW:    I ended up putting  off my trip,  hopefully will reschedule sometime soon.
