hikarateboy Posted February 6, 2012 Posted February 6, 2012 Hi folks. I have been working on migrating the HFC main pages over to use Drupal rather than the current static PHP pages. Drupal will allow for a lot more interaction outside the message board, specifically by letting members contribute to content about models such as text and pictures (kind of like how wikis work) and will help the site stay current.Anyway, I was wondering if there are any other web folks out there that know drupal or are interested in learning and have an interest in helping. I have most of the content imported and mostly cleaned up on a dev site but could use help with creating a good theme or adding other new features. Hopefully people will understand that I dont have a ton of time to help others learn drupal so am looking for others that may have some experience or very good understanding of web development. There is a ton of information out there that would make it some what simple for someone with that back ground to get up to speed quick and I am happy to direct you there as well.Let me know if interested.
cmatthes Posted February 7, 2012 Posted February 7, 2012 Ted has probably gotten too frustrated with getting me to find some spare time to learn Drupal! What I do know seems pretty easy though...
Disturber Posted February 7, 2012 Posted February 7, 2012 I work with Drupal quite frequently, as in putting up new texts and pics etc on my work webpage. I have not yet learned the actual programing part of it though. If it's not to difficult I might consider giving it a shot.
hikarateboy Posted February 7, 2012 Author Posted February 7, 2012 Cool Disturber, We definately need people on all ends of the spectrum to help with the switch over, including those that will come in and work on adding and editing content jsut as you mentioned. Gorch has an IT background too and has offered to look at it with us as well. Any other technical people interested in helping? speak up or contact me thru PM. Its going to be pretty laid back and not a major time commitment
Steve Haynie Posted February 7, 2012 Posted February 7, 2012 Is this project something that can be accomplished by reading Drupal For Dummies or is this going to require some extensive experience?
hikarateboy Posted February 8, 2012 Author Posted February 8, 2012 The idea is once the content pages are converted to drupal people wont need to know much if any html to update the information and images on the site or add new pages. Speaking of we have a lot of information in the brain trust here there that isnt being shared and we could use pages detailing all the models over hamers history. Actually in the new version of the site that I have done so far there is a content type for model and I have 'pages' for most up to a few years ago. So in essence the hope is that members will be able to contribute content to the site about as easily as they post on the messageboard. If you dont know anything about drupal now, dont worry if all goes right you shouldnt need to to pitch in down the line.
hikarateboy Posted February 9, 2012 Author Posted February 9, 2012 Gorch and Disturber. Im under a heavy load with our show coming up a week from friday and saturday but will contact you shortly there after to follow and get started. If you or anyone wants to read up on Drupal there are plenty of good resources on the net. Key though is having someone that has already gone thru the pain who can clear things up quick and I should have no problem taking that role.
Disturber Posted February 9, 2012 Posted February 9, 2012 Okay, we'll see if we can contribute in any way. Good luck with the show, or as we say in the business - break a leg.
gorch Posted February 9, 2012 Posted February 9, 2012 I'm waiting, no problem. Have fun with the show though.
