Rockola Posted March 28, 2006 Posted March 28, 2006 My pockets are not green enough but if they were, I would want a hands-on inspection or approval period. Remember the twist on Lew's one-piece B&C? Just saying...s.

Guest pirateflynn Posted March 28, 2006 Posted March 28, 2006 Lew Collins? He tried to sell an early Sunburst with a twisted neck but with no takers he parted it out. Maybe I have it wrong or just the wrong Lew.Cool '78 ........that's alotta moola.
belgian Posted March 28, 2006 Posted March 28, 2006 A lot of money for one with non original pickups. What's the artist story behind this one ?
kizanski Posted March 28, 2006 Posted March 28, 2006 What's the artist story behind this one ? There isn't one.Like the seller says, he "...purchased the guitar from a pro guitarist that has played on numerous albums..."However, that pro did not play THAT guitar on ANYTHING. In fact, the player in question only owned it for a few days, as it was purchased with the intent of selling at a profit. Not that there's anything wrong with that. God knows I've done it once or twice. How much of the above does the seller know? That's anyone's guess.
serial Posted March 28, 2006 Posted March 28, 2006 Is that the one that was at Lark Street for $1200 and then for sale on the Gear Page the day it sold for $2200?
Guest galejt Posted March 28, 2006 Posted March 28, 2006 I'd sell this one for quite a bit less. Will you stop just springing that thing on people. Stuff it back in your sock, puleeeze! That's 3/2=1.5 times better!
kizanski Posted March 29, 2006 Posted March 29, 2006 Is that the one that was at Lark Street for $1200 and then for sale on the Gear Page the day it sold for $2200? Yep. None other.
sundaypunch Posted March 29, 2006 Posted March 29, 2006 The guitar belongs to me. I bought it from Matte Henderson. Great player, he doesn't keep anything long. I have gotten other guitars from him and would guess that others here have bought from him. I personally don't worry about what someone paid when I buy. I also don't worry too much about whether I make a little or lose a little when I sell. I just buy things I like. I paid less than $2200 from Matte but will still lose a bit on it. I knew going in that it would not be a money maker should I decide to sell it. Everyone is always skeptical with ebay guitars including me. There is definitely no neck twist on this one and it plays great. To me the neck isn't that small. Compared to the 4-digit Standard I owned / sold it is a baseball bat. There are plenty of ways I could unload a lemon without risking a negative on my ebay account after 8 years of all positives. My excellent feedback usually puts people at ease. My only reason for listing it is because I'm picking up a guitar on Saturday that is well north of $10k. If the Hamer sells that helps offset the cost a bit and will make my wife happy. If it doesn't then I can tell her that I tried. It's a drop in the bucket after all. Seriously, as I mention in the auction I will take less than the BIN so feel free to fire away with the "make an offer" option. A lowball offer won't hurt my feelings. Happy to answer any questions.
Zilmo Posted March 29, 2006 Posted March 29, 2006 What PRS are you getting? I'm a PRS collector myself.
serial Posted March 29, 2006 Posted March 29, 2006 My point is not to criticize the buying or selling prices of your guitar. I can't access eBay here and was trying to see if this was the same guitar that I'd been discussing with an HFC member when it was for sale at Lark St. It sounded like a really nice one and at $1200 was an absolute steal. I think that the '77 Sunbursts are going to be at the top end of things shortly if they aren't already (close to or over the $2k range) and the '78s and 79s will not be far behind. The production numbers on these were so small and the guitars are quite good. I had one of my '78 Standards out last night to restring it. Hadn't played it in a year or more, but the neck is exactly like the old '61 SG/LP Customs. Slimmish, but comfortable as heck. I'm so used to the big necks on my FB and newer Hamers which are great, but I warmed back up to this one instantly.

The production numbers on these were so small and the guitars are quite good. Not a problem. I'm a member of about 6-8 online guitar forums and there is always a lot of discussion / speculation when something nice is listed. I checked in here becuase I figured a thread would pop up. This is the first auction I have ever tried the "make best offer" thing or even a BIN. My keep it vs. sell it price is going to be somewhere south of $2k and I will be suprised if I don't get some offers near the end. It does play great. The best thing is to find a HFC'er in Michigan that is willing to check it out in person and confirm that it plays great. I'm can meet someone pretty much anwhere in the state. I had one member contact me who is a little more than an hour from me although I'm not going to volunteer his services.
belgian Posted March 29, 2006 Posted March 29, 2006 The better for you if it sells in the 2K range ! In fact, I have to thank you for the great pic of the wiring of yours, and the overall presentation of the sale. I am restoring mine, and the pic of yours is a great help: mine looks like this now:
sundaypunch Posted April 3, 2006 Posted April 3, 2006 12 hours left in the auction. I did lower the reserve price. You can still hit me with the "best offer" function as well.Thanks.
