  1. I'm loving all the dual-zebra humbucker looks Im seeing. Love that combo on figured sunburst maple.
  2. My wife has no problem with it. But that didn't stop me from interecepting the FedEx guy at the front door last Saturday before he could ring the doorbell, and rushing down to the basement with the package while she was on the phone in the back room. Reflex action, I guess LOL!
  3. Despite what happened with the Dean thread and the ju-jitsu thread, things have changed. And the "you couldn't even type his name" comment is utterly without validity. I spend a lot of time here and that was never the case. Period. (snip) Actually, the situation was that when you typed a certain individual's name, the board software changed the character string to 'he who shall not be named'. I thought it was juvenile then, and I still think it was juvenile now. High school antics. Your memory is faulty, McChris. It did happen, and quite a few other people commented on it as well. I spent quite a bit of time on the phone speaking with one of the other mods about it - ask him. Water under the bridge at this point, but it was the case. Period. I like BTMN's guide to posting. Reasonable enough. I do have recollection of that, so I stand corrected. Apologies to Admiral. Like I said earlier, things are different now. Hopefully for the better.
  4. I was taking a shot at darc. I don't have a problem with that. As far as I'm concerned that's how it'll be from here on out. We'll deal with any "slippery slope" situations as they arise.
  5. +1. It's nothing to get unhinged about.
  6. Despite what happened with the Dean thread and the ju-jitsu thread, things have changed. And the "you couldn't even type his name" comment is utterly without validity. I spend a lot of time here and that was never the case. Period. You should read TGP more often. The admins there damn near caused a revolt with what they did to the Emporiums. I know what this is ..... the annual Pre-Open House Flare-Up! Right on schedule too! Uncanny how it happens even when there isn't an Open House!
  7. You just dropped it in the wrong place. Explain.
  8. Well, there are no guidelines, and things do get moved on a whim. So not a lot we can help you with regarding those two requests until Ted schedules a mod retreat in Cozumel where we can discuss such matters and draw up a formal guideline sheet. I'm fine with leaving member-related posts on the main board. That opens it up to home improvement questions, requests for legal advice and the like, so if everyone's fine with that, OK by me. Let me add that I usually honor the topic starter's decision to put a thread in the OC when it would have been fine on the main board. So if you're wondering how to get rid of moles in your yard and post a thread about it in the OC, I probably won't move it to the main board.
  9. I wish I had some across-the-board guidelines for you, but I don't. I'm sure that's about as frustrating (and yes, lame) as having Hamer say "no" to something 10 times and then saying "yes" to the same thing later on down the line. However, something tells me "hard and fast rules" would not be preferable to most people here. The Fender and Les Paul forums have that vibe down pat. I'm not sure how quickly it was moved, but threads like yours are often left on the main board for a bit to generate some responses, and then moved to the OC, because on the main board we'd like to see only threads that pertain to Hamer, guitar gear in general, music in general, HFC-related events or the musical pursuits of HFC members. With regard to OC access, I'm not sure Ted is taking donations at this time, other than via the new merch store (a thread about which is pinned above). If you think you should have OC access but don't, or if you flat out just want access, PM me and I'll hook you up. No worries.
  10. That was very classy. Have you considered therapy?
  11. I agree; he's a modern-day eccentric in a world where there are so few of them left.
  12. Could be the owner too. ROWR!
  13. Gotta be a TonePros. I knew those were now stock on stop-tuna guitars. Good to see the same is true for wraparounds.
  14. Ha! So do I! Wraparounds rule, and so do Carmie and George! Great addition to the family!
  15. And that's due on large part to the boring, driven-into-the-ground I-IV-V progression that few rhythm sections are willing or able to stray from in a jam situation. Honestly, what HASN'T been done over the I-IV-V? Does anyone think they're gonna sound impressive or original soloing over it? It's amazing how the pentatonic scale suddenly sounds different and more complex when played over a different, more complex progression.
  16. Agreed. But you can't let the inmates run the asylum. Once you do, it's inevitable that the shitheads will take over. No, you saw one guy ruin a whole NIGHT apparently. Someone should have cut that clown off at the beginning when he carted in all his crap.
  17. What a fucking tool. The monthly jam thing I do is technically not "open"; we don't advertise it as such, don't have a signup sheet and pretty much stick to a rotation of the 10-12 regulars in attendance. However we will invite a new guy up if he's willing, but ONLY him sitting in with the regulars, and he HAS to use the house amps and effects. Period. No good for you? Then no jam for you. It used to be "open" and was frequently ruined by guys who couldn't function outside their comfort zone (i.e. without their gear and their bandmates). That is most definitely a form of sucking. Our jams are much better now that we've restricted them to hand-picked players. Certainly an elitist approach, but we don't portray ourselves as something we're not, an open blues jam.
  18. Nah, you're not an idiot. The big blues jam near me is elitist, and the "signup sheet" is bogus. It's only there in case none of the regulars show up. And even then, they get to it when they feel like it. But by the same token, it's always preferable to put your best foot forward when performing in public, and maybe these guys are hesitant to bring a new guy up in case he really does suck, which unfortunately is quite common. It's a difficult line to walk. Running an open jam is tough. You can't make everyone happy.
  19. It's certainly not for everyone. I'm way into the improv thing and it's almost too much for me. But the CD brings back memories of the live show. We staggered out of there as if we had just been worked over by Mike Tyson.
  20. I've been on a bit of a spree lately, so much so that I haven't gotten around to listening to all of them yet. But here are my recent additions: Pat Metheny/Ornette Coleman, "Song X Twentieth Anniversary": I was in college when this came out and had no idea how groundbreaking it was until I saw the live show. Second row center, under the influence. Holy crap, what intensity. Five virtuosos (including Charlie Haden, Jack DeJohnette, Denardo Coleman) soloing simultaneously pretty much all night long was mind-blowing. If you're into this sort of thing, the anniversary package starts out with 5 unreleased cuts from the original sessions, then the original album. Gov't Mule, "High & Mighty": Haven't gotten around to it yet, but I've heard good things. Still, I've been underwhelmed by their stuff since Allen Woody died. He was the engine, the power. Motorhead, "Another Perfect Day Expanded Edition" and "BBC Sessions": Brian Robertson is my all-time favorite guitarist, so I have a soft spot for his short time in Motorhead, which was weird and off-kilter by anyone's estimation. There are some good songs and performances on APD but the production was horrid; here's hoping this repackaged version has also been remixed and/or remastered. The bonus CD is a live show recorded in England featuring this lineup; much better than another show I have with Robbo recorded at L'Amour's in Brooklyn (they took the "Fast & Loud" motto way too far that night) but nonetheless further proof of why this combination didn't work out. Looking forward to the BBC sessions disc as I've yet to hear a bad one in this series. Shooter Jennings, "Put The O Back In Country" and "Electric Rodeo": Waylon's son is being marketed as a country artist and he certainly is to some degree (I discovered him on CMT) but as we all know, the line between modern country and classic rock is damn near non-existent these days, so Shooter and his band sound much more like '70s southern rockers to me. Both CDs are excellent with lots of good, tough songs.
  21. You'll have about 600 chances to see it again; that's about how many times they'll replay the show this weekend.
  22. Earlier in the show they did "White Light White Heat" with Lou Reed. I'm sure the coolness of these appearances was utterly lost on all the hip-hop-heads in attendance and rap fans watching on TV. I'm beginning to think hip-hop will never lose its grip on pop culture. Hair metal lasted, what, 8 or 9 years before it collapsed under the weight of overexposure? It's been 20 years since "Raising Hell" came out and I don't see the popularity of rap diminishing one bit.
  23. Mine has the typical JB/59 combo, just with covers.
  24. I'm the proud owner of a wrap Studio with covered pups. Great, great guitars. Beauty color and flame, man!
  25. It's here, and it's fantastic, and it's mine!!! I've just spent the last couple of hours checking it out and comparing it to my original '59-burst Monaco Bass. This new bass is a monster tone machine. It resonates and rings like very few instruments I've ever played. I'll post more info, but I just had to say I got it, it's great, and Dave(elduave) was great to deal with. You magnificent bastard! Congrats! Much like Brooks is synonymous with the Duotone, George is synonymous with the Monaco bass. The two were made for each other. Looking forward to hearing you in action with it.
