Early Sunbursts: How many do we have here?
Vintage Hamer-Lover replied to donner's topic in Hamer Fan Club Messageboard
Felt in love again with a Sunburst: # 8 0313 ❣️ Just purchased her from a nice German guitar luthier named Alexander Fiedler in Lohr, Bavaria. Looks like NOS, even the Hamer Logo has the fresh white like toothpaste. -
Thank You HBom - and all the best to Ted. It was my first paypal to the US and didn't get a feedback. So I wasn't relaxed enough for sunbathing...

Googling around I just discovered https://musicstarts.myshopify.com Gear's paradise! After a while I had 44 guitars in my cart because of their unbelievable prices. Tried to mail them offering to pick them up personally in the US, but no reaction. Searched them on GoogleMaps: they seem to be located in a coffeeshop... Do You have any experience with MusicStart in San Jose,CA? Is anybody from that area? Are they fake? Ruined? Out of business?

Replacement Tuners and Logo for 80's Vector
Vintage Hamer-Lover replied to Special J's question in Ask the HFC Experts
Good luck 🤞 Perhaps these fotos help You.: Two Vectors with Schallers from 1981 and 1982. Important: "Made in W.Germany" (Reunification was in 1989, then Schaller left the "W.") -
Is change always a good thing?
Vintage Hamer-Lover replied to Hbom's question in Ask the HFC Experts
Just bought a '79 Sunburst with the same (or similar) modification called AGL Mini Bass Cut. It's the black thing, not fixed in the cavity and has a pot like Yours. Sorry for bad pic Seller told me, this would elimnate some muddy bass in distortion mode from the neck PU. quality. Compared it with regular '79 Sunbursts and I liked it, too. So I left the modification. -

Thank You very much for Your reply, Disturber, and sorry for my late reaction: I was on a short trip to the river Rhine with my wife. Yes, all Your remarks are right - and strange. The string height seems to be correct. Also the space between strings and pickups incl. frames. But there is only a very little space left to lower the saddles on this thinner bridgeplate I suppose most likely is Your assumption, that my new family member 9 1372 had a neck reset. Must be a long time ago: the former owner bought her around 10 years ago, he did no repairs, and the owner before said he did neither. Differences to the other four Sunbursts: - the neck angle is a minor - the bridge plate and the PU frames are less high - some colour on the neck next to the body is a bit darker But why all this action? Changing two PU frames and installing a rare bridge plate instead of refixing her with the correct angle? Just a bad done neck repair? Because I suppose, even ten years ago it won't be easy to find an original Hamer plate in Germany or Europe. Or did any firm or manufacturer reproduced this 78-style bridge plate? I should have cleaned her better, but here are some further impressions of the neck heel. And most important: she can scream and sounds great! -

Got a new Sunburst-family member from a very nice guy in Freiburg, Germany: 9 1372 She got a very flat sustain bridge - never seen. Does somebody can help me with informations about it: why? advantages? disadvantages? The highest Ser. Nr. 9 1372 is on the right -
Last month I bougt a red Hamer Echotone, my first Made in Korea. She seems to be in a good condition and the price was right: € 300,- (ca $ 310,-). Woodmaterial and workmanship looks quite good but not the hardware. So I will install a Gotoh nickel Tune o Matic-Bridge, a new selector switch and pots. But especially the Duncan Designed Humbuckers are not my cup of tea: too loud, dull and muddy. What can You recommend for the Echotone? I am searching for a typical ES 335 sound: like wooden '79 Sunbursts Humbucker. I love the sounds of my 79 Hamer Sunbursts. They are my ideal PUs, therefore I prefer Di Marzios. The Echotone should become similar, from clear to scream but with a little bit more 'acoustic' wooden sound amendment: not the same, but more Knock on Wood ;-). By the way: Is my Echotone a first generation Korean model? When was she built? The Ser. Nr. is 9805704 Thank You very much in advance for Your help!
