  6. I think that if you look at NRBQ's entire body of work, it dwarfs a lot of the RR HOF inductees - that said, I also believe that everyone has their own idea of who ought to be inducted, and the age of the beholder probably has much to do with that. For example, I don't see the Cars, Cheap Trick ELO, Nugent or the Cure as all that influential. Nugent's better known for his grilling tapes than his music these days. On the other had, I'd say Little Feat has an immense body of work and immense influence and hasn't seemed to merit induction. It also seems to me that insufficient attention has been paid to the pioneers of the '50s, with Billy Lee Riley and Johnny Burnette furnishing prime examples. Seems the HOF is more of a commercial success kind of thing.
  7. Far has RR HOF misses go, looks to me like Link Wray's omission just might be the worst, and NRBQ another very bad oversight.

  10. Sorry for your bad fortune, Frank, and sincere condolences to you and your family.
  11. My personal favorite, from a nephew: The Ed Wood Box, which includes the DVDs: Plan 9 From Outer Space, Glen or Glenda, Jail Bait, Night of the Ghouls, Bride of the Monster, and The Haunted World of Ed Wood (a nice documentary).
  12. I saw JB and his Famous Flames a few times in the '60s; he was an ass kicking organ player and a monster performer. However, my enduring image of JB remains in the memory of his music oozing from the hootches as I walked along at the Marble Mountain helicopter base in DaNang. JB was one of the of the people who sang me back home. Unforgettable.
  13. welcome to the hfc
  14. Zounds, nice...........what does Hamer call that color of the one on the right?
  15. congratulations
  16. That's actually how I first learned how to play a harmonic - touch the string 12 frets up from the fretted note and pluck with your thumbnail of your right hand as you pull away. Some late '70s Guitar Player article or something had that technique in it - probably the late Tommy Tedesco or somebody like that. George Van Epps and Jimmie Webster were also doing the "true" tapping (a la '70s EVH) in the 50s. Of course, those guys were the "Van Halens" of their day, I guess. Merle T. was cool... Not much new under the sun, eh? That's one thing I always liked about guitar players -- always looking for a new angle --Link Wray punching holes in speakers and Paul Burlison pulling a tube halfway out of the socket for distortion. Les Paul and echo. Tremolos, Univibes................by golly, I love it!
  17. Too cool!!! There were better technical players than ol' Merle, but none with more style!! I saw Bresh in concert once; he was great, told this story: He and Travis were walking around after Travis' set at a festival. A wide-eyed youth approached Merle and after meeting the great one, breathlessly asked what kind of strings he used. A shocked Travis said, "Why son, I use gee-tar strings!" Bresh said Travis later asked why someone would ask him such and thing, and Bresh ventured that perhaps the young man was interested in brand and gauge.

  20. I had an old batwing single p-90 sg of early '60s vintage, trem removed and badass wraparound bridge in its place. couldn't keep the damn thing in tune. It sounded great but I just couldn't seem to keep it in tune...........also tried a couple of others, but had tuning problems with all of them. Is that common with sg's or something?

  23. Cheap guitars are 10 times better. I'm amazed at how good some of the guitars under $200 sound these daze. When I think of my first box, a piece-of-shit Harmony in the early '60s, I'm kind of amazed I kept playing.
  24. cordroad and Punkavenger: thanks, I appreciate it that you took time to respond. i have a Weber, now that I think about it in a Fender Pro Junior that I like a lot; got a good deal on it from somebody on this board, can't remember who just now. Dan: Sent you a PM and thanks.
