What is you favorite practice amp.
Crimsontider replied to Crimsontider's topic in Hamer Fan Club Messageboard
Bet that tweed gives a nice spectrum, with a great bottom end. I am obsessive compulsive and prefer overdrive to metal pedals, might need to snag a OCD pedal. Always good to have at all volumes. -
What is you favorite practice amp? Mine is a Fender Squire Champ 25R. Nice and warm, 2 gains and reverb. $85 and it's loud enough to jam with. All it needs is a little delay and you have a great raw, woody, brown sounding rock or blues sound. Has a better sound at low volume than my stronger dual Ampeg's. I would like to hear what you guys use for practicing. And what effects you use.

Does the Daytona sound like a vintage strat, or like a.......Daytona. Used to have a 76 ash strat. Would love to have that authentic strat sound again, but as cheaply as possible. A Daytona might be a little too much. Happy for anyone who owns one of these beautiful guitars.

I agree. There is no doubt there has to be a connection, but what connection. Since the guitar is rare and desirable, I would think that the guitar first belong to Nugent and Tommy saw it, liked it, and Nugent either lent it or gave it to him. The quality and rareness probably intrigued Tommy enough to want to start using it on their tour.

I am 100% sure of racial differences in vocal power and thickness of pipes. But that does not make someone a better singer. I wish it was o.k to actually say that different races had varying vocal strength and tone traits without fear........ where is the Japanese Aretha? Maybe 1 every thousand years. Not hard to find in the USA. Listening to Aguilera is like fingers on a chalk board. I just don't like the tone of her voice, the belting and acrobatics (forgot the term). They are emulating R&B and I bet there are 1000 black girls at any given time that can smoke Aguilera for the effect she is reaching for. She has looks and technique, but tone quality is poor imo, and it goes back to what she is trying to emulate.......she is at a disadvantage from the start. -

There are so many female artists from the 40's-70's that I wish I knew more of. Karen Carpenter was definitely a once in a decade pop singer in my opinion. She possessed very thick vocal chords and had superior tone quality. Like a great guitar tone compared to plywood. There is no doubt that black singers, and Italians to some extent have more, thicker or something in their vocal chords by nature than results in a fuller sound. It's nearly like you have to double up some in the studio to get that rich and fullness. Of course there is an overlap like with any genetic benefit with others. But this benefit is not the exclusive property to a good singer make, but an important one. Plain old tone, thin or not, can be just as important. Example. Justin Timberlake. Sings songs written for singers like MJ, but for this reason he sounds inferior to me. He is not singing to his strengths imo and comes off sounding thin, unlike the rich, broad note sounding R&B singer he idolizes and was the in thing when he was coming of age. I prefer the timbre and tone over strength and fullness, and the type of music is probably by far why I like certain singers over others. EDIT: Substituted R&B for soul -

Another great contralto. That voice range gives a lot of power to woman without sounding masculine. Perfect for rock imo. Judy Garland is a contralto for example. Katy Perry, Aimee Mann, S. Manson.Chrissie Hynde, Adele among others. -

From new 2012 album by Iris MeDent. Kind of a low key, little known by the masses alto that is as good as any country singer ever imo. Very authentic, non contrived like many of today. She's the type you see on PBS and singing somewhere in DC for various elite types. -

Well, it's Aimee Mann... Just puts forth solid album after solid album every three to four years. Kinda like Knopfler. Been a fan since Voices Carry. I've got her live DVD, though I haven't watched it in a while, but the I recall the guitarist swinging a Hamer. My guess is a Newport. I'll have to take a look this weekend. I was was just out of boot camp and in advanced training when a friend gave me his Voices Carry CD in 85. It was kind of a depressing period and it, along with Queensryche's The Warning helped tremendously. I instantly liked Til Tuesday's new wave style and her voice. I did not abandon her when she moved on and changed directions. She is too melancholy or drab for some, but the quality of her voice is unquestionable. I have always been more about tone than vocal acrobatics. I later discovered my 2 favorite female pop singers are both contralto's in Aimme and Shirley Manson. Great to see others appreciate her too. I think she was listed multiple times before Madonna came up, whom I dislike as a personality but respect her voice. -

Show your friends your new Epiphone? Or the one destroyed by Prince that made national headlines? -

If you like his music you excuse much of his BS. If you don't, you rip him a new one. That sums up 95% of the posts. I am in the 1st group, but respect either. Purple Rain, although now a little dated, has more substance than a lot of good artists careers. -

It's interesting that many listed Aimee Mann being that she's kind of under the radar. Her falceto is the best in Rock imo, The musical IQ of this board is very strong. The people listed have been broad both in style and date. I forgot to mention Prince, just kidding. -

I bought the B-52's wild planet when it came out. I liked the female vocal blend, which was the best since ABBA. How many men admit they like ABBA? I like anything that's good, but prefer metal and post punk. Til Tuesday and Garbage are my all time favorite female fronted rock bands. -

That's some good stuff. The Shop assistants have a post punk / 80's college radio feel that I like. I would bet my house that you do not dislike the B-52's either, whom I like a lot. That's some interesting stuff, where else could I get that angle but here. Someone mentioned going to see the Wilson Sister's so I wanted to post my all time favorite Heart vid. I like the early solo, but I have to fast forward to Ann who is incredible in this....imo. -

Great vid, here is the last one I saw She is like the perfect woman, Scottish accent and all. How can you not like her? Great video, music and that thick sexy voice. She puts Taylor Swift to shame, but I think musically minded people probably know this. I doubt the Garbage super producers would have picked Taylor out of some obscure foreign half ass produced music video playing at midnight and then fly her over the next day like they did with Shirley. Yes, any female artist, not necessarily singer in retrospect. I wanted to add Stevie Nicks to the mix. Great posts, thanks. -

Good choices. I am probably older, I assume. I forgot to mention the singer Dale Bozio from Missing Person's. I'm stuck in history I think. -
Is this one of the reasons why Hamer is going away?
Crimsontider replied to crunchee's topic in Hamer Fan Club Messageboard
Agree, they are like the German auto industry as seen in America....... hurt badly by the Japanese luxury line late comers. You see a lot of Volkswagen's (XT's) while Mercedes stops selling their SUV's in America all together. But they have a loyalty. -

Crimsontider replied to crunchee's topic in Hamer Fan Club Messageboard
Point taken, but I'd liken Hamer more to the Packard or the Pierce Arrow for first-rate materials, meticulous build quality and attention to detail. Better example for sure. Fender and Gibson are like Chevy and Ford and while it's sad to see the lesser but better brands go, I would rather end it all than have the Hamer name just on cookie cutters. Maybe Fender is doing final justice to the Hamer USA owners (and the 1st few years of imports ) by not allowing just an Indonesian guitar that looks like a Hamer but sounds nothing like it, to continue to dilute the pool. I still contend that the balance of the USA's to the recent imports is good enough where Hamer will be remembered as 100% quality. Guitars companies like Kramer have 100X the number of rust bucket imports on the net and in the pawn shops. If someone calls you and says there's a Hamer in the Pawn shop, chances are still decent that it's a USA Model. -
