  1. Agree with the Brainfertilizer. He is talking about something more personal and subtle than many are. The people that started Hamer rose to the top against heavy competition for reason's, and some of them were unique. Some many not know these unique subtleties, but many do. Comparing Hamer to car company where things change sometimes radically on a yearly basis is a poor example. And anyone who believes that a sound business structure trumps incompetent people running it need to look no farther than Detroit and other major cities that are going to down the craper in the USA.
  2. Imo, every matured guitarist will want to be able to produce the classic sounds of the strat/tele bluesy twangy and the Les Paul/SG's straight forward power chord. A high quality single coil is part of that equation. I went without a good one for an extended period and it was painful. The DD HB103N single coil is one of the worst pup's I've ever had the displeasure of playing
  3. It was impossible not have a buzz somewhere with all those pedals. Since I am a home user, I am just happy that you can get pretty decent modeling with software on your computer, but I would love to have a hardware amp modeling processor. You can't beat the athestics, more power and better sound. Me Guitar>soundcard>PC>Fl Studio>Amplitube 3>Soundcard output>Sony Amp>studio monitor speakers My Digital Amp and effect modelling software pictures at 75% size
  4. Has digital made things easier or more complicated? I suppose you have to have a lot of stuff to play live. For home recording. Computer with Hi-Z input sound card and good speakers, Guitar, pre-amp to computer vsti host running ampltube 3.with a good speaker system. All the effects are virtual. The punch comes from your preamp.
  5. I am assuming you are talking hardware? For anyone wanting software Amplitube 3
  6. The best Van Halen since 2000, the Atomic Punks w/Michael Anthony guest appearance http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8eMJ3oNDLjw&feature=related
  7. Dave seemed about a foot taller back then, even without the hair. But in retrospect his acrobatics were more in line with someone 6 feet or under, which by looking at the concert clips is where they are heading fast!
  8. If I was in their sound department, I would have a Michael Anthony vocal track on every song, which I am sure they own. I never had proper respect for Michael until I saw a Chicken Foot concert, not only can he sing but he has the groove to keep up with the best in improvisations. Considering the multi musical generations and gene's of the Halen's, I imagine Woolf is as good or better technically than Anthony was at this stage, but M.A's piercing harmonies are instrumental in reproducing the aesthetics of early Van Halen. I think the bass solo from the 1st Van Hagard VHS concert hurt his credibility. Not sure whos idea it was but it was basically a feedback laden effects free for all triggered probably by Eddie backstage somewhere.
  9. Give Dave a wig. What a lame audience. Far, far removed from the woman and children first tour videos.
  10. The goal is: Two stock guitars played though the same amp with a little delay. Do you like A or B. 99% of guitar owners buy and keep their guitars stock, why complicate things?. Just like good old consumer Report. No need to go into it not being modified if it isn't, which is the overwhelming norm for guitars. Edit: The video shows the Diablo II USA and its wood grain, so it's obviously not basswood. Never heard of a Hamer USA or even Korean Hamer being made from Basswood. It's Alder. The Korean Diablo's are Maple.
  11. Was your Diablo II USA ever coil splittable??? I've had 2 Diablo II's and I don't believe either one was coil-splittable; although I believe only the 2nd one was stock. - Austin Oh cool. Mine's coil splittable, and the wiring seems stock as well, unless someone actually bothered to rewire everything in the same manner again. Furthermore, I doubt so as I bought it "NOS" from a Hamer dealership... The story with mine is that "she" was my first ever electric guitar. I kinda feel bad sometimes. I was told by the friendly salesperson that there was this local musician that tried her out and really dig her. Only problem was he/she couldn't afford her, and kept asking for price reductions, not so much to squeeze the dealership, but he was more like begging the store to sell her to him. I bought her instead... Yes, I feel a little awkward referring to my guitars as "hers"... If a days ever comes where you want to downgrade or unload a few for another purchase, keep me in mind .
  12. No doubt they were in their 20's. When I was in the 6th grade I remember that "Miracles" "Slow Ride" "Sultans of Swing", "Year of the Cat" "Lines on my Face" were all favorites of mine. Seems like Starship was kind of an 80's produced sell-out to a few members and some that even went along with it now look back on it with a little embarrassment, which I don't think they should. I can envision them in the studio, older, with a young hotshot producer who is "going to give them an 80's modern sound", which was done. Same thing later with Heart. Whomever wrote some of their 80's stuff probably wrote for many others bands of the time because when the Steve Perry vocal sound was in style for the early 80's Rock and Roll ballads. imo of course
  13. A voluntary absence is better than involuntary abstinence.
  14. Some tunes that are too catchy can get a bad rep. Built this city is one of those songs that doesn't want to exit the scene, kind of like the American Hat Dance.
  15. Just one come comment. I am still debating what is the best Strat sound I can get for the money, and I am talking about the classic bluesy bright sound. Tokai or G&L maybe? Due to sons tuition I am on a budget, but I want to get a nice single coil strat sounding guitar. I think I could buy a better quality not paying for the Fender name. The Hamer's Strats or Daytona's are too expensive. I wish I could have my 76 strat back, heavy and all, it could do it all. For another thread I guess.
  16. Those are really nice plus some are the best price point axe's. I think I could find any sound I needed from those. I have been thinking of getting a Tokai Strat Clone. I watched a video of this guy going through all the stops with one of them and it sounded like a typical vintage strat in all of the spectrum clean or with distortion, just the guitar and amp. Not sure if they all sound like that but that one sounded like an early 60's strat to me. On my list.
  17. If they had just left out the DJ weatherman bit I would have like that song better. I did like Jane and Find your way out........they should get more airtime on the classic rock channels imo.

  19. Good point and one I considered as well. However, it is a valid comparison of two stock guitars. I agree with the prior poster about hearing them in a mix but as far as modifying them for a comparison, maybe 1 out of 500 people change pup's. Just an estimate from looking at used guitars online. Most just buy a stock guitar and keep it the way it is so this video sums it up nicely for them. I have heard JEMS with all sorts of pickups but the construction of the guitar always comes through to give it that Ibanez sound. I don't particularly like the sound but it's strength is cutting through a mix imo.
  20. Well it is a well though off guitar for sure. Maybe other Hamer's would fair better with you. OK, here's what happened: I thought "the second guitar" started after 2:30, as there's a pause. Wasn't watching it, so after a couple of more minutes I just said "this is it, I have a winner" and closed the web browser. This means I never got hear the Ibanez. Now I'm at home and watched the video until the end. The sound of the Ibanez sucks. The Diablo wins BIG time. I would do the same, I guess he just wanted to change camera angles. I like versatile guitars that are thick but can be shaped and don't have an after taste. Just raw, thick and pleasing. Just wanted to add the advertisement of the Diablo's from 96. It's difficult to read but the Alder bodied, Maple Neck with Rosewood Fretted Diablo's were priced the same due to equal manufacturing costs. . Both had Dimarzio's - a Norton Lite and a Pro Zone, but the Diablo II had the additional SM2 and 5 way switch. So it looks like playing the neck pickup on the I and II should sound about the same. I am looking to buy one, so either one would do the trick
  21. lol ! The I'm Superior smirk, thin and tubular sounding guitar other than over processed trick squeals and shrills. Very contrived and restrained. Vai is a great great player, but is the polar opposite of what I like.
  22. Well it is a well though off guitar for sure. Maybe other Hamer's would fair better with you.
  23. I think most can, and most probably have a few brands. As it is somewhat subjective, the odds are most here will pick the Hamer because that's the sound they like. YouTube site it was unanimously Hamer. Comparison's like this further justifies the price of Hamer's and the reputation it has for me. I want a Diablo in the near future. It's less defined but more attractive sounding to me, more umph. You could probably shape the sound of the Diablo 2 to emulate all you favorite Metal guitarists. The Ibanez has a tubular sound you can't easily shake imo. But many like that Vai,Satriani sound. Thought it was a good video.
