zorrow Posted April 4 Posted April 4 Some of you asked about what’s that white V with one pickup and a semi-hollow body, so this is for you gearheads: A friend of mine, who isn’t exactly a luthier but is skilled with his hands and has built several guitars, built this guitar for me, based on a 67 V. It’s built from leftovers and low-grade wood, so nothing fancy here. It’s all cheap mahogany, both sides of the body are rather thick planks, not even one piece per side, so it’s a semi-hollow that actually isn’t, as there’s no special acoustic considerations whatsoever. And the F-holes are just for the looks, of course. Ah, and being the body so light, it tends to neck-dive. The fretboard is made of the cheapest wood he had in his workshop. It’s maple, but intended for furniture, not guitars. The best part is the finish. The thick coat of ivory white paint he used is very resistant, and it has aged beautifully. Now, the hardware is something else. I installed it, myself. It has Gotoh locking tuners, a TonePros TOM bridge with roller saddles and a steel trussrod cover with “Custom” engraved on it, which I bought on eBay. The pickup deserves to be mentioned separately. It’s a Nova Omnia G6 H, German-made. After experimenting with different combinations, I ended up wiring the coils in parallel. Perfect tone, not so hot, rich and focused. For more information about these pickups, click here: https://www.nova-pickups.com/products/omnia?variant=48045200179537 Luckily, this aberrant guitar resulted in being a very comfortable instrument which feels great in my hands and that also sounds amazing. It has become my favorite guitar to play. As a final touch, I found a sticker of an ugly duck in a public bathroom, took it with me and placed it on the back of the headstock of this guitar. So, that’s it. Hope you enjoyed the story and the guitar p0rn. 👊😎 15 2 Quote
