Valvetech 25/50 Info

I have had several people call or email me about my custom Valvetech 25/50 EL-34 based amp so I am posting this thread with more info if that is OK with the Mods.

The amp is made from high end components and is hand wired PTP construction. Rob makes his own chassis as well. The cab is bulit like a tank and the tolex is of the highest quality. I don't know what he will chargenow but think of a boutique amp maker that makes plexi clones and cut the price by at east half. I will say this, Robs amp will meet or beat all of them.

I had Rick, Sonicblue 1960 stop by earlier this week and he played through it. He was completely blown away. This is the man that owns a Peters amp that does everything. He went home and ordered one.

I have had people talk to me about this sound they hear in head head but can't quite find it out there. I was one of those folks so last year I rolled the dice with this one and I hit the jackpot.

If you own one of his 6V6 amps, don't go by that, this is a very different beast tonally. Think Allman Bros, AC/DC, Free, etc. Plug in a LP and find Duanes or Warrens tone, plug in a Strat and tweak a little to find Jimi, or Ritchie. Classic Rock and blues tones up the wazzoo!!!!!!! Tweak the amp here, roll the tone and vol on the guitar there, and you will be amazed at what you will find.

Rick and I will be getting together in the near future to put some mp3's together.

I'l post when they are available this way you can hear the amp and laugh at my amazing lack of ability. Bottom line, I have a blast when I play so I have no shame.

Dan, I'm scheming with regard to a Valvetech, and intend to wring one or two out at the MWJ. The tones you describe have me drooling, but one question: does the thing clean up? And howzabout the tones when it does?

Curse you! Curse you! GAAAASSSS!!! I can't stand it!!! Sounds like a Teefus C30 with an attidude problem.

No EL-34 Valvetechs at the MWJ, as far as I know.

Can't wait to have mine : I have a 25 watt combo cooking by Rob, with 2 x 12 Celestion vintage 30's.

Another 6 weeks to wait.

I am now a Vavletech owner myself. I scored on off of ebay this past week. A VT amp has been on my must buy gear list for about two years now. I doubt it will be here by the Midwest jam but it make it here I bring it up.

Rob only live about 40 miles form me so when I get it I am planning of have Rob check it out , do any upgrades & maybe change the grill cloth on it. Its a 2x10 so am going to have Rob build me a matching 2x12 cab to go with it.

I can't wait to hear about yours. Could you tell us what kind of tone you are looking for. Rob has the ability to translate a description to a joyfull noise.

i wanted to be able to blend voxy and matchless style channels with a master volume. i think he said the output should be around 30-40 watts with a cathode biased pair of el34's. one channel has a cut and the other channel has a very simple tone stack. i was actually looking for a used bivalve when i thought of this. the v-tech actually came ina little cheaper than the used bivalves have been going for. no brainer in my book.

I wanted that made clear since Mobster was asking me about it. I think he said he is looking for the same thing you are. I can get close to that on channel one but since yours will be cathode biased you should get more of a singing tone.

Mobster!!!!!! Are you getting all of this?

I am curious what difference does the El34's being cathode biased make in the sound? I am interested in tube amps but have never heard the differences in a comparison. Are the old 1987 circuit Plexis cathode biased? Thanks for any info.

i just personally like the el34 tube for what i do. with a cathode biased pair you tend to get that bloom off the note(s) that has a nice sustainy feel. i thought the ability to blend a voxy and a matchless style channel with a (much needed) master volume and simple tone stack sounded like a good idea. i am getting anxious to try it out.
