Jones Posted May 30, 2006 Posted May 30, 2006 Hollowskull - I watched a Journey soundcheck last summer during the Generations tour. The band started playing "Separate Ways" with just Cain, Valory, Castronovo and Schon's roadie on guitar. The vocals came in and I was floored - I had never seen the newest version on Journey. I was looking all over too see where Augeri was standing when I noticed it was Deen singing lead. HE F'N NAILED IT!!! I had goosebumps - the whole thing sounded just like the recording. During the show, he sang "Patiently" and again nailed it - all while playing the drums. He should be the lead singer of Journey.
Guest pirateflynn Posted May 30, 2006 Posted May 30, 2006 I just saw Steve Perry again while at breakfast. He seems pretty content.
kizanski Posted May 30, 2006 Posted May 30, 2006 I wouldn’t piss down his throat if his heart were on fire. One of the best lines EVER!I'm gonna see if I can work that into casual conversation today. Shouldn't be too hard.

Shouldn't be too hard. A reputed Harmony Central con man once said he wouldn't piss in my mouth if my teeth were on fire. A nice variation on that theme!

MCChris Posted May 30, 2006 Posted May 30, 2006 Holy Crap!! I always assumed that the non-Perry vocals were Neil Schon! I have a solo album of his where he does some singing (Late Nite) and it sounds pretty much like Greg Rollie (same nasally vocal quality, but less power). i didn't think much of that record. i liked the Schon and Hammer disc. have it on vinyl. There were actually two Schon & Hammer albums, "Untold Passion" and "Here To Stay." The latter was more of a straight-ahead rock record (remember "No More Lies"?) whereas the former was kinda fusion-yAnother interesting one is the 1983 Hagar Schon Aaronson Shrieve album "Through the Fire." You gotta suffer through some really bad lyrics (par for the course when Sammy's involved) but there's some great playing by Neal, very fiery whereas Journey was really wimping out around that time. Cool cover of "A Whiter Shade of Pale" on there too.
frank_c Posted May 31, 2006 Posted May 31, 2006 i have Here To Stay. as for HSAS...Clichegar, indeed.
Jack C Posted May 31, 2006 Posted May 31, 2006 A bought the HSAS cassette when it came out. Whiter Shade of Pale was the only song that I cared for but it was awesome.
Guest Mike Lee Posted May 31, 2006 Posted May 31, 2006 Perry is probably content because the writing credits for the songs he wrote probably generate a very nice royalty income. And if he gets anything from the actual album sales, that's icing on the cake.

I really don't have much more to say. I see him at the same breakfast joint 2 to 3 times a week and he's usually with some friends having a good time. Dressed casual and unassuming. I've crossed paths with him a few times a he gives me a nod to say hello.
jettster Posted August 8, 2006 Posted August 8, 2006 I know there was some debate as to whether or not Steve Perry could sing on his last tour. This boot just happens to be from his last tour in 95'. His range sounds slightly diminished from his 80's heyday but, I'd have to say he sounds pretty damn killer. Maybe he was having a bad night or towards the end of his tour when problems came up?Judge for yourself.http://www.guitars101.com/vb/bootlegs-othe...n-j-1995-a.htmlPosted from above websiteAlright guys, here is one of my favorite concerts in my collection.
