separanets Posted July 29, 2006 Posted July 29, 2006 I'm looking for a combo that provides the good old Marshall sound like this:50 Watt Plexihttp://www.fulltone.com/audio/OCD_SG_Zep.mp3http://www.fulltone.com/audio/OCD_SGdiddy.mp3Rivera Suprema 55http://www.guitar-world.ru/docs/audio/rive...rema55_rock.mp3The TSL and DSL fail. The Marshall 50 Watt Plexi is no longer available and the Rivera Suprema 55 is not yet affordable (~$2000)So, are there any other means that generate similar sound? Or maybe it's better to use idea like to use a JMP-1 as a pre-amp channel. What about ADA-MP1? Laney LC15?Thanks.
Guest pirateflynn Posted July 29, 2006 Posted July 29, 2006 What wattage do you need?Germino amps are killer for Marshall style. Some good ones on ebay right now:http://search.ebay.com/search/search.dll?s...%26catref%3DC6&

separanets Posted July 29, 2006 Author Posted July 29, 2006 15-50 watt amplification is allright. $1,200.00 ? Sorry, that's too much (especially if include intercontinential shipment). This onehttp://www.hamerfanclub.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=12297$650+a cab for $600 will be the same $1250. Thr maximum I can pay is $1000.Yeah, this sound costs fortune.
zzdat Posted July 29, 2006 Posted July 29, 2006 I have one of the first year DSL 50 watters. In classic crunch mode it gets a very good old school Marshall crunch.cleans up a bit when you turn the guitar down too.I've had a few vintage Marshall pieces, an early 70's 50 watt smallbox head, and the first run of non master mark II's from 1975.I had these when they were new. The DSL is very close for a master volumeamp to the old school crunch sound, it misses a little by not having quite the bright upper mid/top end the other amps had, but it's very close.Like most master volume amps they do sound better the higher you can get the master volume. I use a Marshall Power Brake one or two clicksattenuated so I can run the master little higher with out peeling paintoff the wall.I've been told by other players that the DSL I have is better than most, somaybe I just got a very good one.Cool BeansGene
black magic Posted July 29, 2006 Posted July 29, 2006 I know a guy selling an old Marshall 4204 combo or something on the Jackson forum, it is the 50 watt combo version of the 2204 head-interested? Jack.
separanets Posted July 29, 2006 Author Posted July 29, 2006 2 zzdat. All that u're saying is interesting. People say Marshall 401 DSL has a more modern overdrive/distortion style and they are like "you'll pay for the name". And I didn't find any good audio samples to assess the characher of the new Marshall sound. What an "oops"! But people who had told me the DSL sound was found wanting.>>I know a guy selling an old Marshall 4204 combo or something on the Jackson forum, it is the 50 watt combo version of the 2204 head-interested? Jack.I'm afraid the shipment might be an obstacle, so I'd be quite satisfied with just a description of a model and after that I will probably find a way to get it. I can get things from Japan and from eBay. But on eBay it's more difficult due to agencies that take a comission without any warranty that I will finally receive my items.
Smokin Tone Posted July 29, 2006 Posted July 29, 2006 Build an 18 watt or a JTM-45. Even modding a 99.00 ephiphone valve junior can get you close if done right. Depends on what you need. Ceriatone will ship a chassis already built. Ceriatone
black magic Posted July 29, 2006 Posted July 29, 2006 It is called the Marshall 4210, 50 watts, 1x12 Celestion, Reverb, 2 channels and FX Loop. I would pick it up, but I am looking for a 100 watt + head. Jack.

sonja Posted July 30, 2006 Posted July 30, 2006 If you are located in Europe you might want to look into these:Tube Amp Doctor Amp KitsThey are not really cheap, but have very good quality components.

Guest pirateflynn Posted July 30, 2006 Posted July 30, 2006 Save up a little longer and buy one of these....... Germino C45: http://thegearpage.net/board/showthread.php?t=154998 Here's a post from a guy who just gigged with one: http://thegearpage.net/board/showthread.php?t=157577 $1550 for a Germino C45 Combo is a great value. Greg Germino is one of the best in the business and has great customer support even on used items. The C45 is a Blues Breaker - "THE" Blues Breaker amp. It is very versitile with stellar cleans that will surprise you and crunchy early Marshall gain that will immediately get you laid and piss off your friends. Here's a pic of my Germino C45:
MrGuitarguy Posted July 30, 2006 Posted July 30, 2006 Is the componet quality of the Ceriatone stuff the same as the real amps? I particularly interested in the DC-30 kit they have.
separanets Posted July 31, 2006 Author Posted July 31, 2006 Thanks. The Germino seems exaclty what I need. Meanwhile, I tried out a Marshall 401 DSL today and I have a controversial impression. It really kills everyone on its 40 tube watts Pluses:- creat attack- natural overamplification; it overdrives smoothly keeping the natural guitar tone and by degree turns into a veritable roar. That's what tube amplification must be like, IMO. No hiss at hights- very loud, I'd expected the worse- it can play at a quiet level as well Minuses:- still it shouts a bit, I hear some frequencies that aren't ok for my ear.- bassy bottoms are almost absent. It can't go trough and farts a bit, too sad. - the hi-gain channel was not impressive at all; I'd leave it out to reduce the price- it still sounds too hard for me, if not to say stiffAnd they gave me a guitar with P-90s in, I noticed that only later.Well, the main impression is its mid-gain and it sounds very bright when soloing. And I could play some fank, jazz rythm, rock. It's extremely hard for me. I can't say if it's suitable for modern metallists, maybe not, I'm not surre. So, I would grow interested in it, if it had a bit more basses. And I wanted to compare it with a TSL601, but the store was already closing. So perhaps next time.P.S. Above all, it sounds as a real Marshall, all the same.
Guest Mike Lee Posted July 31, 2006 Posted July 31, 2006 I'll put in a plug for Dr. Z amps. The Route 66 has a great old Marshall tone in the JTM 45 vein, while the KT-45 is more of a 50 watt plexi. And the Carmen Ghia through the right speaker can get very Marshally too. Here are some samples:Route 66 - http://soundchunks.com/drzamps/grissomrt66a.mp3KT-45 - http://soundchunks.com/drzamps/grissomkt45a.mp3The new Prescription Extra Strength has some promise too - http://www.drzamps.com/sounds/brent/12-rx_sg_rocks.mp3Check out all the samples on the Dr. Z website - http://www.drzamps.com
Smokin Tone Posted August 1, 2006 Posted August 1, 2006 Is the componet quality of the Ceriatone stuff the same as the real amps? I particularly interested in the DC-30 kit they have.Yes Nik uses good parts (Sprauge, Mallory etc). He does use his own transformers and though I've heard no complaints, some people opt to get their own trannies. Usually due to the fact that it reduces the shipping cost if buying a kit.
