KeyOfZ Posted April 8, 2005 Posted April 8, 2005 So my next custom order will either be a Studio, Artist and now possibly a Watson.I have a couple questions:1. Would Hamer be willing to remove the Jeff Watson logo from the headstock?2. What would the Tremolo options be on these guitars? (Wilkinson? Floyd?)I am not particularly a Jeff Watson fan and wouldn't want his name on one of my guitars (no offense Jeff) and a guitar like that IMHO BEGS for a Whammy bar of some kind (although I do like the idea of a Sustain Block as well).
cmatthes Posted April 9, 2005 Posted April 9, 2005 There is no Jeff Watson decal/logo on the headstock (or anywhere else) on a Hamer Jeff Watson model, or whatever the current models are officially called. The only ones with "Jeff Watson" above (or below) the logo were made specifically for Jeff. The only Hamer "signature" models that actually had an artist's name on them in production were the Steve Stevens models (Steve's facsimile sig in a decal on the headstock) and the Rick Nielsen models made for the Jpns market (59 burst Standard Customs with Rick's facsimile signature decal on the headstock between the truss rod cover and the Hamer logo). I guess that you could also say that the Nielsen "Futura"/Signature models also had his signature on them - the imports had it screened into the guard and the USA LEs had it engraved on the silver plate. I can't think of another Hamer that actually had a name on the headstock that wasn't an artist order or a custom order personalization right now. As far as a Trem - the sky's the limit. Hamer has recently done Floyd, Wilkinson and ABM trems, and if you have a particular favorite and are willing and able to pony up the custom order $$, you're good to go! Unless of course, you have an affinity for Washburn Wonderbars or something...
KeyOfZ Posted April 9, 2005 Author Posted April 9, 2005 Gotcha, My local Hamer dealer (Dave McMillan of Valley Music Source in Livermore) has a Jeff Watson #1 that he got from Jeff himself. It has Jeffs name on it so I assumed they put it on all of them. As far as the Whammy Bar goes.....I picture a Floyd on it I'll have to see where my funds take me but Dave is trying to talk me into the Watson right now. Now I just have to talk my wife into the extra $$$ involved in aquiring it. I could just tell her "Look...BCRGreg told me to order it so that's that woman!" Thanks for the info.
Mobster Posted April 9, 2005 Posted April 9, 2005 Hey, Dave is a great guy!I met him at NAMM and we hung out for quite a bit at the Kaman booth and at the show at the galaxy. We talked Watsons and other things for a long while. In fact, in the late 80's, and early 90's, he was one of a handful of Hamer dealers that ordered the way-cool customs, i.e. FB's, Watsons, virts, holoskulls, doublenecks, and the like. (another one was my local dealer, Focus II Guitar Center on Long Island, and I know Chris Matthes' local dealer was one of these guys also)He's great buddies with Hamstd, (who introduced us), and actually owns the Watson Prototype (The flamed one that's on the floor in the Jeff Watson Hamer ad).He was pretty impressed that we got Hamer to reissue the Watson.Tell him Greg, Hamstd's friend, says "Hey!"BTW-Dave has one helluva Hamer photo album!Go for the Floyd. That's what my next Watson is going to be.
cmatthes Posted April 9, 2005 Posted April 9, 2005 Dave is a truly nice guy to boot! First class. Finally got to meet him at NAMM as well, and he's got a lot of cool Hamer-related stories! He was a very involved dealer "back in the day".
elduave Posted April 9, 2005 Posted April 9, 2005 He gave me and Chris a ride. Very mutually entertaining, I'm sure.
