Guest cruster Posted April 10, 2005 Posted April 10, 2005 Just perusing the database this evening...very nice, obviously that's the result of a lot of hard work and dedication, so thanks! Unfortunately, my serial isn't listed in there, which isn't too big of a deal. Just wondered how one gets entered? Is it invite only? Also, I'm not even sure what the finish on my 96 Studio FM is; it's dark red at the outside, fading to orange-ish red in the center. But, there's no clear delineation between the colors. I happen to like it a lot. Is that a '59 Burst? Something else?
Mike_C Posted April 10, 2005 Posted April 10, 2005 IIRC eventually there will be a link on the front page of the HFC for entries into the Database. Serial and others (sorry I forgot who) have been working hard on updating the info and getting it ready for the new format. I can only imagine what a big task that is on top of a busy real job.

I agree. It would be nice if it became possible to make choices in the database, for instance to put all serial numbers in sequence, or specify a model etc.etc. As it is now it is not very easy to look up certain guitars, because the serial numbers are not in sequence. But to correct that may be a lot of work or it may be done in seconds, depending on how the database is set up. I also would like to be able to load the database with new data, right now I can find two of my four Hamers in the database. Gabe
hikarateboy Posted April 11, 2005 Posted April 11, 2005 you guys are right on target. As this is the first php mysql driven web app I have built from the ground up its taken a bit longer than I would like but its all about learning. Here's the plan and things that I have half way working but didnt include in the page you see. 1. Search - Free text and by model, year, color, etc. I had free text working all fine then I added the page numbers and prev/next arrows and messed that all up. But it should be soon.2. Sorting with out search - view the guitars by model, color, year, etc.. 3. Online submission. I have this done too inlcuding picture upload (you have clicked on the serial number and saw that it shows you a detail page for the guitar right?) Anyway I am integrating it to the messageboard db so that only members may submit guitars. Once a guitar is submitted this leads us to...4. Administration interface that no one sees but Steve. After an online submission takes place an email goes to steve with a link so he can review and approve THEN the guitar shows up in the database we all se. I am sure I forgot something but its been a lot of work and learning but enjoyable and useful for the future. If we have any php/mysql experts that want to point out my mistakes in the code email me. I welcome help of any kind.

But it may require sending it to steve who will update your record. One thing that will happen when that record is updated will be that your guitar will also be listed as yours and you will be able to fully update it thereafter. People will also be able to contact Steve or I just to have there ownership data updated. It's sooo close but there are a few things I cant make work as I dont know php/mysql that well yet. Hang in there it will happen. That plea for help still is out there for anyone that knows this stuff better than I. thanks.
tobereeno Posted April 11, 2005 Posted April 11, 2005 this kicks ass! it's like having member pages for each and every one of our babies!

I noticed that you have a serial database set up. It looks great. I have a couple guitars that are listed in the serial database. One of my guitars is not on there though. I would like to submit information and pictures. When will it be ready? Let me know, I'm interested in making a contribution to the database. Guitar George
