serial Posted April 14, 2005 Posted April 14, 2005 I simply can't stop listening to The Shazam. Good lord, they're good. The first spin through Godspeed the Shazam, three songs jumped out as stellar and I made the mistake of listening to those only. Branching out, there are some other fantastic tunes on that disc. I'd been trying to pick up some of their stuff for a while (thanks to Pam for the recommendation), but if it isn't mainstream, it ain't in the stores here and I kept getting outbid on eBay. Finally got a disc on eBay from Canada. Of course after several months of not being on iTunes, they're there as of last week with the full catalog.Long story short, (yes there IS Hamer content here), if you like Cheap Trick, The Who, White album-era Beatles, ELO, the Move, etc with a bit of an edge, you've gotta check these guys out. Pure perfect power pop. Oh yeah, the bassist plays a Chaparral 12 bass and the guitarist has an old Standard. These guys are awesome.
Cheap Chick Posted April 14, 2005 Posted April 14, 2005 See? I'm right .0000001% of the time! Glad I turned you onto them! Carmie is a huge fan of theirs too! We were planning on doing a Shazam song for the MWJ last year - in our all-girl Shazam tribute band incarnation - the SHE-zam! I've been talking with Hans Rotenberry the mastermind behind the Shazam - just about one of the nicest guys you'd ever want to meet and just about the most talented too!
serial Posted April 14, 2005 Author Posted April 14, 2005 When I mention ELO, I'm speaking about some of the vocal harmony things. Don't think Moogs and shit. Trust me, you'd dig 'em.
