Steve Vai's new album?

Anyone checked it out yet? It came out today Real Illusions:Reflections.

You can go to www.towerrecords.com and listen to snipets of all the tracks. Sounds pretty interesting.

Wow, the compression on those samples is brutal. Anyway, my first impression is that the instrumental stuff sounds pretty cool (although Midway Creatures and Yai Yai sound a bit derivative of his earlier stuff). As far as vocals go, I haven't particularly liked any of Vai's vocal stuff since Flexable.

I've had it for a little over a week now. I think it's quite good. I can definitely hear his past work (esp. wth Zappa) in it, but think there's a new direction to his work as well.

I'm looking forward to the show in Milwaukee.

That pic got me banned from Harmony Central, for posting it. Go figure...they post pics of nearly naked chicks (THOUSANDS!!!), and I get got banned for a joke picture. Go figure. But it did get a couple of laffs. I figured putting a link up to it, with a WARNING, would be "safer" than posting it up.

BTW...I was re-enstated to HC, after a short banishment.

Picked up Vai's new album yesterday. So far so good. I can definitely hear the Zappa in it. I'd like to hear a few more fast paced rockers from Vai. But perhaps he's just mellowing in his age. Either way, it's a good album.
