Steve Haynie Posted March 3, 2005 Posted March 3, 2005 Blackfoot is back! At least 3/4 + 1 of them are back. Charlie Hargrett, Jakson Spires, and Greg Walker have gotten back together with Bobby Barth (Hargrett's replacement in the 80's). Apparently there is a legal agreement over the use of the name, and this is the best we will ever get. Rick Medlocke is not a part of the band. He was a great front man, but it took a whole band to rock like Blackfoot.I'll take any Blackfoot reunion I can get.http://www.blackfootrocks.com/home.htm
Stike Posted March 3, 2005 Posted March 3, 2005 Sounds like some bad blood. I gotta say though Blackfoot without Rick just dosen't seem right, like Foghat without Lonesome Dave, or Social Distortion without Mike Ness. I did see Rick's version of Blackfoot in the late 90's and he had a bunch of early 20 something kids playing with him. The guitarist had no mids going on and was sweep picking the whole time. The drummer had some uber-'flicted drum kit with like 6 kicks and all his shit swingin' from chains. Maybe the Blackfoot you're talkin about might be a better show after all LOL.
Turdus Posted March 3, 2005 Posted March 3, 2005 Without Rick, I doubt anybody will care. He was the band. I met him in '79, and he had this immaculate "cool" persona that can not be described.Listen to the best of their albums.. meaning anything prior to '81 or so. Rick always geared up each lead vocal with a tremendous "WELLLLLLLL...."Isn't Bobby Barth from Axe? A rather boring late 70's, early 80's outfit.
jisham Posted March 3, 2005 Posted March 3, 2005 Isn't Medlocke playing guitar with Lynyrd Skynyrd? Yes he is.
pesocaster Posted March 3, 2005 Posted March 3, 2005 no Medlocke = no blackfoot ..... and yea David E he is in Skynyrd now .....
HamStd Posted March 3, 2005 Posted March 3, 2005 I have to agree too, Medlocke was the driving force of Blackfoot, no Medlock, it is just a Blackfoot tribute!!!I'll also take this bandwidth to toot alittle Hamer porn (along with a pic stolen from Jol's webpage, this is the guitar on the right). Used almosted exclusively on the '80's Germany/Europe and Blackfoot tour and was a back-up for the shows here in the US.Thanks to Turdus, Chris M., Steve Mc and Frank U. Was able to hook up with Ricky at a Skynyrd show and offered to give it back to him, He was excited to see the guitar again as he remember it, but told me his Ibanez is still his #1 (although the one he is using on the current Skynyrd tour is not the same one from the blackfoot days, as that one stays at home).Peter.***edited to say "don't know how to attach multiple images here???????
pesocaster Posted March 3, 2005 Posted March 3, 2005 Cool Axe Peter! I can't belive he uses those trems ...... and it is his trem of choice..... works for him though.... he is still a smoking player...
ceeb Posted March 3, 2005 Posted March 3, 2005 Interesting. Many people, including ex-band members also say no Ronnie, no Skynyrd.
HamStd Posted March 3, 2005 Posted March 3, 2005 Yeah Rob, He liked the old Gibson Maestro style vibratos..... He certainly could do some prettty good wang bar stuff with it, considering it is probably the only trem out there that is worse than a bigsby for playing harder rock (apologies to any bigsby fans out there).Peter.Here is the scan from Jol's site.
Turdus Posted March 3, 2005 Posted March 3, 2005 And here's a little six degrees on that guitar.Blackfoot -> Merchants Of Cool -> SmithereensAs it was used at one of our shows, where Pat Dinizo hopped up on stage with us.Does that count? LOLSaxon(Artist formerly known as Turdus)It is all yours Rechts!
HamerHokie Posted March 3, 2005 Posted March 3, 2005 Isn't Medlocke playing guitar with Lynyrd Skynyrd? Yes he is. He's playing the Allen Collins part.Hughie Thomasson = Steve GainesMedlocke = Allen CollinsGary Rossington = himself + a few pounds
shred dog Posted March 3, 2005 Posted March 3, 2005 blackfoot without rick why ? that seems like kind of a waste for me but you never know
Turdus Posted March 5, 2005 Posted March 5, 2005 This thread prompted me to pull out the first 2 Blackfoot records:No Reservations&Flyin' HighCirca '75 & '76. I had forgotten just how good those 2 are. Quite a bit different from their well known stuff.
