Butcher and I went to this nice old lady's house today to look at her departed husband's guitars. A couple of junkers, and this bad ass mofo.....

Ampeg "Heavy Stud", an early Tokai built Tele copy(made 1973/74). Her husband bought it new. We paid too much, but this way she'll have her friends call me with THEIR guitars. I mainly bought it because I didn't want to take up her time and not give her anything(since there were no prewar Martins of 50's Bursts...). I brought this back to the shop and cleaned it up, restrung it and plugged it in. WOW!!!!! The pickups sound killer and it has a great neck. Tokai has really come a long way, but they were not wasting anyone's time in 1974.

The original case is cool, too.

Take it for $375 and be the coolest kid on your block.

I suspect the name was an Ampeg decision. I wouldn't swear on a stack of anything to it, but I'm pretty sure I've seen several Ampeg models with the "Heavy Stud" monicker on the headstock.

That's just so weird and tacky it's cool. Strap that baby on over your black leather, huge hair and Spandex and do "Feelings"..... <_<

I'm still looking for a Big Stud bass to steal the neck off and put on something NOT plywood...not saying anything about the guitars, but the basses were definitely the aforementioned plywood.
