edgar_allan_poe Posted January 8, 2008 Posted January 8, 2008 Had 'em. Great pickups, but to be honest I thought the Voodoo and Fralins were better. I had them in a Baker Crucible.
Guest pirateflynn Posted January 8, 2008 Posted January 8, 2008 I like Fralins, too. I've never had a Holmes set before but I've heard about their magic. I'll be throwing them in a semi-hollowbody and trying recaptured the tone I had with my '59 ES335..... GOOD LUCK!I'm on a pretty good road.
phoenix Posted January 8, 2008 Posted January 8, 2008 Awesome! Did you go 4 conductor so you can do Jimmy Page wiring. I did it with both those and the Fralins in an R9, R8. I found the Fralins super, but a bit more Fendery sounding which makes sense and also goes along with the Pickup Shootout results from awhile back.
currypowder Posted January 8, 2008 Posted January 8, 2008 I have a set of Holmes pickup in an '83 335 reissue. I don't have a 59 335 to compare it to, nor have I ever heard any different pickups in this guitar (they came in it when I purchased it from, if I remember correctly, bobbymack). But I will say that the 335 is one sweet sounding mofo, and I'm sure the pickups are at least a part of the equation.
Punkavenger Posted January 8, 2008 Posted January 8, 2008 I can hardly wait to see how the Fralins blues specials I recently received from the nicest guy on the planet BD sound in my soon to be ordered semi hollow Warmouth Strat body with SRV neck. Is this relevant? new pups... upcoming project guitar... semi hollow body... Fralins mentioned in thread this is how my mind works ... apologies if its not coherent I've also heard good things about the Tom Holmes ... ROCK ON Pirate FLYNN !

At the time TH started winding, there were no other boutique winders to speak of...
Guest pirateflynn Posted January 8, 2008 Posted January 8, 2008 I did a little relicing last night lol I've tried Fralins and Wagners and after some time prefer the Fralins. The WCRs are good but have extra booty that annoys me after a while. I also like the original DiMarzio made for Hamer PAFs.
santellavision Posted January 8, 2008 Posted January 8, 2008 Are those for real? What company makes a p/u with that much relicing? Crazy, But maybe it looks cool on one of those Trussart Steelcasters.
Guest pirateflynn Posted January 8, 2008 Posted January 8, 2008 I pulled that picture from an Ebay auction. The way the ad reads, I think the owner added some extra relicing of his own and went too far. Hence, the sale!A disaster.
edgar_allan_poe Posted January 8, 2008 Posted January 8, 2008 I thought Schlebotniks were the way to go.Shhhhhhhh.... the less people that know, the better for us.
