BubbaVO Posted March 15, 2008 Posted March 15, 2008 I was doing my usual scanning of e-bay and saw a number of Dean Acoustics - Electric guitars w/ 3 band EQ (a flying V model). Price point seemed right. Are they well made? How do they sound? Get what you pay for? Great deal?
DaveH Posted March 15, 2008 Posted March 15, 2008 I've got a single cut Artist CSE that I scored on ebay for about $400 probably 5 - 6 years ago. It's a pretty decent guitar, easily on par with others I've played costing upwards of $1K - 1.2K.
formula73 Posted March 15, 2008 Posted March 15, 2008 I've played the Vcoustic and the new ML model, and (obviously) they sound like crap acoustically. They're ok plugged in, though. If you can find one of the old Sweetwood models, you'll definitely be happy. Most of the new ones seem to me like pretty guitars that were meant to be seen more than played.
Steve Haynie Posted March 15, 2008 Posted March 15, 2008 Early Dean acoustics from the 90's were great for the money. I have no idea about the newer ones. I did try out a V shaped acoustic around December. It was cool.
Joe G Posted March 16, 2008 Posted March 16, 2008 I like the Dean acoustic/electric QSE model from 2 years ago with the Fishman pickup. At that time, ththe QSE model was a step up from the Performer models that came with a Shadow pickup. Things might have changed since then so check the model specs and make sure that you get an all wood top. I am not knocking the performer guitar, I just know that if you are going to plug in, the model guitar with the Fishman electronics was as of two years ago the better model to go with and most likely to have an all wood top. Also, the Dean acoustic guitar cases aren't very good. So, if the case isn't with the guitar, and you are buying a case, look for another brand case, or opt or a good gig bag, instead.
Joe G Posted March 16, 2008 Posted March 16, 2008 The QSE Supreme model was around $400 two years ago. I have two friends who bought who are happy with their purchases. One was a KOA model and the other was a blonde maple quilt top. They play alot of gigs and no problems whatsoever after two years use. Over time, the blonde maple quilt top is the more favorite of the two. I don't think $400 buys much in a new guitar. I would think that the better value would be if could find that model used in good condition for $200-$250.
