Hamerhack Posted April 7, 2008 Posted April 7, 2008 So there was a client in the office the other day, and I happened to mention guitars. He says "Guitars, eh? The best two guitarists I know are Chet Atkins!" Then he went on to describe his ultimate concert experience: Chet Atkins, and three other guys whose names I didn't recognize were all on stage at once. (I assumed they were all super talents). I also assumed from his enthusiasm that it would be the equivalent of seeing Hendrix, Page, Clapton, & Jeff Beck at one show.Well, I don't know anything by Chet Atkins, so I asked him if he's ever heard of Tommy Emmanuel (thanks HFC for introducing me to Tommy). He hadn't heard of Tommy, but I figured I might as well get one cd by Chet Atkins, and while I'm at it, one by Merle Travis. I don't know if it'll be my "Style" of music, but I'm sure I can appreciate the talent.Any suggestions?
Bruiser Brody Posted April 7, 2008 Posted April 7, 2008 Check out - "The Day The Fingerpickers Took Over The World" by Chet and TE. There's several Merle Travis 'greatest hits' compilations out there. If ya can, try and find a Jerry Reed acoustic fingerpickin' CD. Incredible player. If ya haven't, buy - "Only", "Endless Road", "Live One" and "The Mystery" by TE. The best fingerpickin' out there imo. He's got a new live recording coming out soon called 'Center Stage'.

Willie G. Moseley Posted April 8, 2008 Posted April 8, 2008 For covers, CHET ATKINS PICKS ON THE BEATLES is a delight, and it still holds up decades later.
