geoff_hartwell Posted September 12, 2008 Posted September 12, 2008 Howdy folks! I'm looking to sell my silverface Princeton Reverb and was looking for help on the listing. When I bought it, I believe he told me it was a '70 or '71. No mods aside from a 3-prong cord. Older version without the pull-boost. How do I find out what year, and any other pertinent specs? Thanks! Geoff
tomteriffic Posted September 12, 2008 Posted September 12, 2008 Geoff, somebody will chime in here pretty soon, I'm sure. Here's a spot that is some help The Fender Amp Field Guide But ber aware that the code stamp on the tube chart may not make sense. I had to date mine by the date codes on the transformers. Unfortunately, I've forgotten how to do that, but there's a guide on that site, I know. Somebody around here knows that bit, I'm sure
geoff_hartwell Posted September 12, 2008 Author Posted September 12, 2008 Thanks Bro! I need all the help I can get! GH
hamersandstrats Posted September 12, 2008 Posted September 12, 2008 Can I call dibs on this amp? There are date codes on transformers, speakers and chasis to date the amp. All are available in that Fender link.
geoff_hartwell Posted September 13, 2008 Author Posted September 13, 2008 Followed the link and there was only a basic overview of the specs of the amp.Is there another place where I can plug in the codes, or at least find a series of lists?
hamersandstrats Posted September 13, 2008 Posted September 13, 2008 Hey Geoff,Try this link:http://www.tcguitar.com/articles/gagliano_pt5.htmlI do remember googling the speaker codes on one of my Fender amps and I was able to find a date, like wise with the transformers.
gregc Posted September 13, 2008 Posted September 13, 2008 Date codes on the pots and transformers will put you close enough.
tomteriffic Posted September 13, 2008 Posted September 13, 2008 Geoff go to That Link I Posted Above and click on the Fender amp FAQ on the left column. Scroll down on the right column and there's the date code stuff. I think I figured out that mine was a '71 or '72 from the transformer codes.
Joe G Posted September 13, 2008 Posted September 13, 2008 Here's another good link to identify date and manufacturer by source-date codes on speakers and pots. http://www.provide.net/~cfh/pots.html
geoff_hartwell Posted September 13, 2008 Author Posted September 13, 2008 I think I'm getting closer...The speaker is the original Oxford (465-J30-10J4-5B) and the chassis is stamped "A 30417" - Which puts it in 73 or more likely 74. Sound right to the experts?
bizzwriter Posted September 13, 2008 Posted September 13, 2008 I think I'm getting closer...The speaker is the original Oxford (465-J30-10J4-5B) and the chassis is stamped "A 30417" - Which puts it in 73 or more likely 74. Sound right to the experts?(1) Is there a pair of letters stamped on the paper tube chart inside the wooden cabinet?(2) Please supply the number from the top of one of the transformers.I can give you a date in a minute with that info...
tomteriffic Posted September 14, 2008 Posted September 14, 2008 That late a model may have no letters on the tube chart, or ones that don't correspond to the "normal" historical method. Mine didn't correlate with anything that I was able to find. The transformer codes did the trick. And Geoff, the chassis serial number is a wild-ass guess at best. Those were stamped out, serialized and pretty much tossed in a bin and pulled out at random. Because of that you can have lower serial numbers with later build dates and all that kind of stuff.
