fatcat88 Posted September 21, 2008 Posted September 21, 2008 I am new to the Hamerfanclub so if I break every code of conduct get me fixed but don't beat medown too hard dudes and ladies, OK? I am very sick with non hodgkins lymphoma cancer and need this guitar valued for my family.THE NEW PIC no sticker! not the highest resolution - updated sort of...I am sick and have dial up so give me h*ll!. Thanks for your great responses. I noticed a new metal fan in the forum Excellent. The best thing about all the comments for the value of my guitar is that you sound so professional like you would if you knew what you're talking about! Just kidding! You guys / ladies have really cheered me up today. Really good pickup spotter (espec with those pics and that darn sticker!) forum member 'serial' noticed on my hamer that it's a stock humbucker is not a aftermarket do it yourself-er, its really stock. A Hamer Slammer or made by a manuf for Hamer? No lettering on the pickup from day it was new (on top). I do have the case for the guitar w/Hamer logo. Its not a advert to sell though, I am not dead yet, OK. You can push me down the stairs later. For now please read my post below (the bigger one I updated info) if you want to and have time. SAMPIC w/NO STICK!________________http://i466.photobucket.com/albums/rr28/sa...tomsamsnost.jpg1st pic has higher resolution/clarity this is not so clear and has that darn sticker on it!______________________________________________________________________http://i466.photobucket.com/albums/rr28/sa...RELsams1986.jpgdetail of headstock -- better pic than no three my basstation is in there too______________________________________________________________http://i466.photobucket.com/albums/rr28/sa...rialnoonbac.jpgMy name is Sam and I am the original owner of a 1986 Hamer Chaparral USA Custom, the guitar has the old style large hocky stick headstock (like the judas priest guitars) and OBL singles 2 and a unknown but stock in bridge. The Floyd Rose is one of the first years the FR was put on guitars in massiveamounts by manuf so its a heavy tremolo/bridge. It also has the three small phase/pickup select switches and a set neck, ebony fretboard and all boomerangs on the neck. Its a turquoise blue metallic paint. I bought it in 1986 for 1249.99 from a store now out of bus.The guitar is in 9 of 10 condition with the only wear being the frets are worn down considerably from use. But no cracks of paint or chips. It does say Hamer USA on the headstock also.serial number is 61**90 if you have a reason for the whole serial number email me. thanks for your help, or just reading. I really am glad there is a real hamer site, I had to look around for a while to find this one. Most are not kept up to date. Can you please help with a realistic value? I have seen them selling for 800 to 4700 and have no idea of valueSAM
atquinn Posted September 21, 2008 Posted September 21, 2008 It has the all-important ebony fretboard and boomerang inlays, so it will sell for a good price. Definitely take the sticker off, clean it up and take some glamour shots before you think about selling it. I definitely don't think it's worth close to 4700, but I think you should probably get back what you paid for it if the climate on eBay is right (which is where I would sell it).-Austin
Steve Haynie Posted September 21, 2008 Posted September 21, 2008 Some of the Chaparral Customs have gotten bids over the $1000 mark in the last couple of years. Some have fell short. There is a chance that if you have photos showing your guitar in excellent condition you might get back what you paid just like Austin said.
fatcat88 Posted September 21, 2008 Author Posted September 21, 2008 thanks to both of you for your help so far thats great info. The sticker is actually off, its a old photo and I am trying to make some hard decsions right now as to what to do about keeping it or other. I really appreciate your help
sw686blue Posted September 21, 2008 Posted September 21, 2008 Hello Sam,The guys on this board will be able to give you a good idea as to how much you should expect to get from your guitar. I agree that you should remove the sticker, clean it up and take some high quality, high resolution photos.Good luck in your fight with lymphoma. You'll definitely be in my prayers.Nick
cmatthes Posted September 22, 2008 Posted September 22, 2008 That's a cool model and a nice finish - probably more in the $800-$1,100 range, but I agree that eBay is probably the place to get the best price for it. I'd definitely remove that sticker and clean it up. You'll get more for it if it's clean and you have really nice and clear photos. If you have the original case, that's also important to grab additional $$ when it sells.Looks like the bridge pickup has been swapped out, but not 100% sure from the photo. It's possible that that would have an OBL HB in the bridge originally.
serial Posted September 22, 2008 Posted September 22, 2008 Not necessarily-looks like a stock Slammer in the bridge, not uncommon to have a Slammer with two OBL singles. Cool guitars.
fatcat88 Posted September 23, 2008 Author Posted September 23, 2008 Not necessarily-looks like a stock Slammer in the bridge, not uncommon to have a Slammer with two OBL singles. Cool guitars. From Sam again - thanks for the replys - the guitar is all stock except for the sticker which is no longer on the guitar. the humbucker is a stock Hamer pickup desinged by another reputable pickup maker from my knowledge, someone will know this. The two singles are OBL's. I do have the original case and bought it new. PIC w/NO STICK! (same as I updated up top) ______________________________________http://i466.photobucket.com/albums/rr28/sa...tomsamsnost.jpgIf you read my original question closely, (and I am not complaining because the responses have been great), I am not putting up a ad for sale here on this page. I am only asking for help with the value should I not be around and my family need to sell it. This is a real possiblilty at this time unfortunately and I am doing what I can so they don't get scammed by someone showing them a Hamer XT advert and telling them its worth 225.00. See why I need help now? This is one of the reasons why I posted the pic with the sticker. Its a picture that is about 3 years old but the guitar hasn't been played in 2 years becuase I have had chemo treatements constantly. I was feeling to bad to dig out the case and camera and take new pics, failure on my part, and this is not a excuse but knowledge for you for to my actions. Honestly, I wasn't just being slack and posted a Hamer with a sticker on it asking "who wants to buy my guitar (with a sticker on it!" that is funny huh? I haven't laughed in a long time. I just thought about what some of you guys thought when you opened the pic. What the h*ll is he serious, with a sticker on it?! I will do my best to get a better pic up since the guitar does look so much better in person and these pics fall short of showing it. It has a blue pearl metallic paint that is really nice and its not torn up. I do have the original case. I have looked online doing searches quite often, for the past two years, to find these online (for sale, to get a value) and am just not finding any like mine. I see ones with the smaller headstock and bolt on neck that were higher production units in the late 80's but none like mine. I have seen a LOT of californians but again, they made a lot more of those than the chaparrals like I have. Does it matter? Maybe its got the same value as these I mentioned. I really am at a loss for information I can trust for my family to use if needed in the future in selling the guitar. Other than this site there are few resources I could find. I am sick though so I may have missed some. Since there are a few comments about the sticker and pic quality, I will try to get a new pic up. (addition: did thissee first entry at beginning by me, now its the first pic) Its not a 1600x1200 resolution pic because I am really sick and am using dial up service. I have zero income. By the time I would get one real hi-res photo up this board using dial up service you guys will have moved on to other things! I will do my best. Much respect to all of you for keeping up a site that is great info without attitudes or slamming others. Real information and real pals it seems. Very cool I must say.thanks for your time SamAbout the pickups,

Very cool I must say.thanks for your time SamAbout the pickups,Sam-the "Slammers" were done by Dimarzio to Hamer specs. One of my all-time favorite guitars is my '86 Chap Custom. Truly nice guitars and much more desirable with boomers on ebony fingerboard like yours is.We wish you the best (obviously) and if we can be of any help at all, feel free to post again or PM some of us. There are many very helpful people here-very few, if any, that aren't in fact-you've come to the right place.
