Nathan of Brainfertilizer Fame Posted July 28, 2009 Posted July 28, 2009 Unless you are careful, you just might end up thinking this is a USA Hamer Californian.
atquinn Posted July 28, 2009 Posted July 28, 2009 If you've seen enough of both, it only takes a split-second to tell the difference. But when in doubt, it's always good to ask the seller for a picture of the front of the headstock.-Austin

cmatthes Posted July 28, 2009 Posted July 28, 2009 No - the boomers are pointed correctly, just the placement is wrong, the import boomers are thinner and sharper, the necks are always bound (not very common on the USA models) and a USA Cali would never have been made with a 2pc, off-center body seam. That's an import from a mile away.
kurtsstuff Posted July 28, 2009 Posted July 28, 2009 Well...it is only a BIN for $500.00 so...not sure what the big panic isStill too much but not out of reality
BlueRedWhite Posted July 28, 2009 Posted July 28, 2009 It looks almost exacly like my import, on mine you can even see the 2 pc on the front.. take a look at one of the real Calis to compare... I have a question: what is the average price of an import Cali?

I have a question: what is the average price of an import Cali? I have 3. My most expensive one was $300, purchased about a year ago. The other two were around $200. The reserve may be far lower than the the $500 BIN, so it's probably no big deal. No - the boomers are pointed correctly, just the placement is wrong, the import boomers are thinner and sharper, the necks are always bound (not very common on the USA models) and a USA Cali would never have been made with a 2pc, off-center body seam. That's an import from a mile away. Well...it is only a BIN for $500.00 so...not sure what the big panic is Still too much but not out of reality Well, I guess I'm the stupid one. I couldn't tell it from a mile away. I saw the boomers, and the $500 BIN would be about $200 more than an import, and the description didn't say anything that would imply an import. I started getting a little bit excited for about 30 seconds. That someone got a Jeff Watson for a $550 BIN was fresh in my mind. Now, it didn't take too long --about a minute-- before I realized what I was looking at. I started thinking that anything that seems too good to be true probably is, and then I squinted at the blurry headstock picture. I figured I might as well post it here as a warning.

Doink Posted July 30, 2009 Posted July 30, 2009 Oh I can spot that import from 10 miles away. The color of the body is the first tip off. 2nd is the binding. Third is the TRS style trem. 4th is the smaller logo. 5th is the laminate of the body....
