Ethan Posted August 8, 2009 Posted August 8, 2009 i put a abr style bridge and aluminum tailpiece on my sg and i think they're great...maybe not as much tone response as some might say (that might also depend on the guitar) but the stuff is well made and the locking part is convenient and i could see how it might help keep setups a little more consistent. maybe shoot tonepros an email if you're having problems figuring out which one would be best for your guitar
GaryT Posted August 8, 2009 Posted August 8, 2009 Whats on the Artist and Studio now? The stock Schaller bridge and Gotoh Stop-Tail?
landon w Posted August 8, 2009 Author Posted August 8, 2009 Whats on the Artist and Studio now? The stock Schaller bridge and Gotoh Stop-Tail?neither, wraparound, which i love, but i thought tone pros had a bridge that was a wraparound that provided more sustain as well??????do they?, still havent been able to fnd anything concrete
Ethan Posted August 8, 2009 Posted August 8, 2009 i think their pitch is that the locking screws create more sustain when they're locked down to the posts. like i said i'm not sure how much this actually happens and i'm sure it depends on the guitar and setup too...is that what you meant?

I mean to a degree it makes sense, but come on, how much more sustain can you get? everything is still touching and transfering vibration regardless, the bridge isnt magically hovering over the body of the gutitar...................So I guess I just wanted another opinion, or real life experience with these set ups, to get some more understanding on it.Thanks,Landon
GaryT Posted August 9, 2009 Posted August 9, 2009 Landon I don't know about a Wrap-Around by Tone -Pro's, I haven't played one. But they DO make one and its on their web sight as soon as their sight loads up, it shows a photo of it.Wilkinson has a Very good unit I used on my last PRS. I bought it from Guitarfetish who carrys Wilkinson products. Take a look at it. Its locking and has adjustable saddles for intonation. Its also light weight AluminumLeo Quan and the original Bad-Ass is also a decent unit but a little bigger and more bulky than the Wilky.BTW you'll be surprized how much difference a Good Bridge makes. Not so much in tuning, but with sustain and clarity for sure. Good Luck, GT
riff raff Posted August 9, 2009 Posted August 9, 2009 I had a tone pros setup put on my Heritage H150 and was impressed with the improvement. Not everybody experiences the same thing though. I bought my first Hamer a couple weeks ago with the Wilky trem unit and have never had a guitar with so much sustain. I'm VERY impressed with this Hamer.....are they all this good? I'm lovin it!
JGale Posted August 9, 2009 Posted August 9, 2009 For wraptails there are two solutions. For no particular reason other than they ended up thataway and I liked the cleaner look with the f-hole, This for a semi-hollow This for the solid Tone Pros product here Stewmac has the Pigtails
BubbaVO Posted August 9, 2009 Posted August 9, 2009 I like the locking studs - that way you don't worry about the bridge slipping out when changing strings and adding a ding to your top. As far as additional sustain - sure, maybe, whynot, whadoiknow...
RoyB Posted August 9, 2009 Posted August 9, 2009 Since I'm a dealer of TonePros and have been for about four years now I'm biased, but I'll say I use them on all my guitars and all the RS guitars because they work. On your guitars I'd forget the bridge change and just pick up a couple of sets of there vintage steal locking studs because that's where the tone comes from. The bridges are really just modded Gotoh products, but the studs are the $hit.

Yeah i had thought about the studs, but i just took a look at the schaller retro fit trems, and they look pretty sweet, gonna do a little more research. Tone and sustain on my mirage with the wilki trem is fine and dandy like sour candy, artist is ok, could use a little assistace, as well as my studio. they are wraparounds which i love, but a little more hang time without having to stroke a light vibrato out to keep it there would be nice CAN I GET A AMEN!!!!
hudpucker Posted August 17, 2009 Posted August 17, 2009 You probably already know this but...Steve of Pigtail designed the Tone Pros wraparound bridge and the Pigtail version is a bit more refined. Switching from Tone Pros' locking brass (their standard set) studs to their vintage steel locking studs absolutely made a difference, IMO. I installed both sets of locking studs years before installing the wraparound and going from regular to locking studs also made a noticeable difference in resonance and sustain. Really.I've never tried their tailpieces or ABRs.FWIW, I did the above on two guitars: a '94 Studio and a '96 Artist.
