Bluesking Posted August 20, 2009 Posted August 20, 2009 You make some valid points, but most of them apply to someone who either:1. Intentionally changes a price to effectively shill their own sale price or 2. Has been in the online marketplace and is savvy regarding the ins and outs of that environment.Neither applies to this case since the seller has never sold anything online before, including CraigsList. I simply advised them to do a little research so they would go into a transaction with their eyes wide open.I do think as a Hamer community with a good reputation in keeping things above board, we failed in this case. The HFC seemed to collectively pounce before all the facts were revealed.FWIW, it does have the original case - I must have misunderstood when I called the first time. The bottom line is that we live in a free market society. It's ultimately up to the seller to do whatever they want - we might not like it all the time, but that's the way it goes.

I own and item and post it for sale at a set price, then a few days later raise the price. With no track record and in a community known for unfair trading, untrustworthy is the only way anyone outside the box could see this. I don't think this forum acted out of line given the situation. Enough said. I wish him good luck with the sale.
gorch Posted August 20, 2009 Posted August 20, 2009 This is a nice discussion. It started with a pricy opportunity and ended up on HFC ethics. Because of the large timezone differences, 6-9 hours in advance, I come up reading threads in the morning when they seem to be finished. Reading them in a post manner leads to different thoughts than following them involved live. This is one of those. I think this is a situation what we say in Germany of having the tiny bird in your hand and see a big bird on the roof. The seller was up to catching the tiny bird and before having it fixed saw the big bird landing on the roof. The funny thing is, that you tiny bird guys are now tweeting: he didn't catch me, he didn't catch me. - I'd say, you were all doing the right thing at the time being. - Just found it in the dict. "A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush."
