Jorge Posted July 27, 2005 Posted July 27, 2005 I have liked this band, and heard them on an of for many years. Not very popular around here....anyway: I just bought a DVD of them playing live recently ("Merchants of Cool"), and they blew me away. That is the heavenly TONE I have had in my head for ever. What amp is it? Marshall Plexi I guess? They don't play with the original player (forget his name), but the new dude plays and sounds just the same. If any of you are into this band, you HAVE to check the DVD. They even invite Slash and Neil Schon for a song, and you really...just hope they leave the stage soon.
Brooks Posted July 27, 2005 Posted July 27, 2005 i'm not much of a fan of their stuff, but mick ralphs tone on the early albums is one of the best rawk guitar sounds ever, up there w/ 70's zz top.i saw whats left of bad co (i think it was mick ralphs and maybe the bassist?) at a skynyrd show ~95, it felt more like a bad co tribute band. opener zakk wylde's pride & glory totally wiped the stage w/ bad co & skynyrd, i wish zakk would go back to that classic southern hard rock sound.
serial Posted July 27, 2005 Posted July 27, 2005 Agreed that BadCo's 70s tone was the stuff. Perfect crunch, thick leads and great playing.
belgian Posted July 27, 2005 Posted July 27, 2005 The first two albums were fantastic, after those it went all down the hill..
mirageman Posted July 27, 2005 Posted July 27, 2005 the guy on the Merchants DVD is called Dave "bucket" Coldwell,he used to be the 2nd guitarist/rythym player in Bad Company along with Mick Ralphs in 1980,s and 1990,s,so he probably was well familiar with what Mick played, dont know why Mick Ralphs left although he still plays/tours with Ian Hunter (mott the Hoople )lately
Guest teefus2 Posted July 27, 2005 Posted July 27, 2005 i always liked the hamer-on riff from rnr fantasy. nice one.
MCChris Posted July 27, 2005 Posted July 27, 2005 I've seen videos from the Merchants DVD on VH1 Classic and I could have sworn that was Ralphs. Regardless, I agree about the tone. Gainier than the studio stuff, which I like.
Stevieconlon Posted July 27, 2005 Posted July 27, 2005 Thanks for info re: guitarist on Merchants of Cool. I enjoyed the video but didn't think it was Ralphs.Too bad the Bad Co tunes aren't appreciated these days!

Then all I just need is just a 100 watter or a RioGrande amp. Simple
