humfree Posted February 12, 2010 Posted February 12, 2010 Pics are horrible, but thought there may be some local who wants to snatch this up and turn it into a story..http://sacramento.craigslist.org/msg/1594514508.htmlI know you can't be too accurate - just looking for an idea.
Steve Haynie Posted February 12, 2010 Posted February 12, 2010 The repair ought to be close to the price of the bass, and you will have something worth less than what you have in it by the time it is done. How good are your woodworking skills and do you have the patience to do the job yourself? Right now you should grab the bass and part it out. I need the bridge, but not for the guy's asking price. The case by itself can bring a good bit. There is a chance to make some money.
zenmindbeginner Posted February 12, 2010 Posted February 12, 2010 Isn't it more of a headstock repair? BCR Greg does those all of the time...
gatorbyte007 Posted February 12, 2010 Posted February 12, 2010 If someone lives near this, Parting it out is the way to go. I would pay $50.00 for the bare Body. Im sure the parts would sell quick.
cmatthes Posted February 12, 2010 Posted February 12, 2010 Factoring in the cost of a pro headstock repair and possibly a refin, it will be worth less restored than a new unbroken, original one would cost. I totally agree with Steve H. on this one. That being said, you could probably get $50 for the bridge, $50 for the pickups & pots (if in way better condition than that bass!), $50 for the tuners, and probably at least $100 for the case, assuming it doesn't have some sort of horrible permafunk. This would be a fun project for somebody equipped to do all the work at home, but in my opinion, not worth it at all to have professionally brought back from the dead.
