BadJaxx Posted August 11, 2005 Posted August 11, 2005 You know, I was thinking about the parts guitar thing. Perhaps it's project time? I'm fairly sure that I could handle quite a bit of the bonehead assembly work, but aligning the neck/body/bridge, and the electronic wiring are things I'd love to learn, but would prefer to farm out to the experts. Is this in your field of comfort? Carvin is having a sale on their parts and kits...
Guest galejt Posted August 11, 2005 Posted August 11, 2005 I just saw this at Buffalo Brothers (Daytona for $499):Hamer USA Daytona Daytona Pics --Jon Wait. Isn't that a Humbucker in the bridge?
Turdus Posted August 11, 2005 Posted August 11, 2005 Consider a used Fender MIM Vintage Player. Jumbo frets, 9.5 radius, Texas specials, Am vintage bridge. I've heard that all parts are USA, and it is merely assembled in Mexico.I just sold my '69 CS Strat, as to me, the VP was equally as playable. Fender just recently discontinued this one, and people are catching on. Used prices are over $600 now, which ain't that far from the $699 that these sold for new.

kizanski Posted August 11, 2005 Posted August 11, 2005 Hamer USA DaytonaDaytona Pics Semi-unrelated tech question:Is the installation of that "Earvana" nut reversible, or is the fretboard ruined?
Guest galejt Posted August 11, 2005 Posted August 11, 2005 Hamer USA DaytonaDaytona Pics Semi-unrelated tech question:Is the installation of that "Earvana" nut reversible, or is the fretboard ruined? I'd say reversible. Greggles is doing one for me now.Aren't you cutey?
Guest galejt Posted August 11, 2005 Posted August 11, 2005 I have one for sale also, but I'd sooner cut my arm off than hijaak Kiz's thread...oh wait...Shit!Just don't make it the left one.
guitfiddler Posted August 12, 2005 Posted August 12, 2005 To custom-build one to individual preference (I've done 8 or 9 for myself & others, including a presentation guitar for Debbie Davies this year)) using the "best of everything" USA Custom or Warmoth body, & neck, Callaham trem. unit, high-grade Alnico V pickups w/middle RWRP, Switchcraft switch & jack, cloth wire, Gotoh vintage-style H.A.P. locking tuners) will cost $1,100 for the parts, + labor. A beefy neck (fatback or boatneck) tends to sound best combined with a "bouncy" light body (1 or 2 piece swamp-ash about 3 lbs. 12 oz., or if you want to get really fancy, flame maple on korina... under 4 lbs.) This setup (I spotted today at Warmoth showcase) would look really cool with a vintage-style amber tinted gloss lacquer neck w/rosewood board (cream dots,) and antique-white pickup covers : (but, I might want to substitute a standard tortoise-shell pickguard, for the brownish one shown.... although it is unusual)
