backinit Posted November 13, 2010 Posted November 13, 2010 Is 1/2" birch plywood sufficient for a 112 cabinet if I use a 3/4" baffle?
Hamer Bass Head Posted November 14, 2010 Posted November 14, 2010 Is 1/2" birch plywood sufficient for a 112 cabinet if I use a 3/4" baffle?I'm sure you could do it, but after all the bracing you'd be adding to keep it from resonating, you're probably better off building it all from 3/4" ply instead
bubs_42 Posted November 14, 2010 Posted November 14, 2010 I'd just go with the 3/4. I repaired a Damaged 4x12 this past summer and after seeing how they are put together and how the repiars went I would go with 3/4. I was able after searching through piles of birch plywood I found a piece that passed my QC checklist at my local Menards. I had to buy a sheet that had one section big enough to make my 2 piece back out of it.
backinit Posted November 14, 2010 Author Posted November 14, 2010 The reason I'm asking is that I have 4 pieces of 2' x 4'. Seems like an nice way to use a couple pieces and just have to buy a thicker piece for the baffle.
HSB0531 Posted November 17, 2010 Posted November 17, 2010 Buy enough 3/4" (18.5mm) to do the back and the front baffle.Use the 1/2" for the sides, top & bottom.
Armitage Posted November 17, 2010 Posted November 17, 2010 Sounds like a lot of work for something you can pick up cheap used... and homemade stuff seldomly has any resale value.

HSB0531 Posted November 20, 2010 Posted November 20, 2010 Being able to say: "I built it", does feel good.
