Steinberg Virtual Bassist...

What's the easiest way to add credible computer-generated bass lines to my tracks?

I have Riff Works with Instant Drummer, which makes quite easy for me "building" a song with pretty decent drums and my own guitar parts.

However, while I can play bass too, I would love to have something like an "Instant Bassist" feature --you know, defining tempo, key (or chord changes), style, tone, attack and "wilderness" per section in my song, and that would be it (just the same way the "Instant Drummer" works, but without the key, of course).

I Googled around and found this Steinberg Virtual Bassist thing, but it happens to be discontinued. :o

Can anyone please recommend me a "virtual bassist" piece of software featuring more or less what I described above?

TIA!

PS: Had posted it in the OC, which isn't the right place for this.

It's probably easier to record a bassline.

Here is the KVR.com page with "Bass" selected for the VST. Free, Trials, and pay.

There used to be a free small non installation .dll that was the first virtual bassist from Steinberg. I tried to look for it, but it's on an old CD. It could make a realistic sounding electric guitar with a little bit of effects added.

If you have a good host, the Native instrument synths make great bass sounds, expecially Massive and the FM synthesis FM8

Well, managed to get an eval copy of the Virtual Bassist. I'll try it this weekend and see if it works for me. If it does, I'll purchase it. There's still a couple of dealers around selling it at discount prices.

I used Band-In-A-Box to put together some good drum/bass parts before. I gave it changes, and picked a style and it spit out A/B/C versions with fills and transitions. I thought it worked pretty great once I found patches that I liked for the instruments. I think I could have MIDI'd them out to my keyboard for even better sounds, but then I might as well have played them :o I mean, come on, we're shootin' for easy right :)
