Bluesking Posted July 4, 2011 Posted July 4, 2011 Here's a killer Marshall that is a rock guitarist's wet dream. A 1976 Marshall JMP, 4 holer, 50 watts - absolute classic. However, this one has been tastefully modded by Dave Bray with his "Panther" mod. Both channels are internally jumpered for maximum tone options. The top left input is the hard rock/metal channel and gets pretty nasty. No Nu/Death metal tones here, just bad-ass modded Marshall. Sounds very much like Jake E. Lee's Badlands tone to me. The lower left input is much more tame and has some good clean tone available and goes from "Beano" Clapton to Thin Lizzy with the turn of a volume knob. I was able to dial in a respectable UFO-era Schenker tone in about 10 seconds. The right volume knob is push/pull - with the knob pulled out, you've got a Tube Screamer on. It's foot switchable and works on both channels. To tie it all together, this amp has a nice master volume in the back (PPIV) that actually works. Honestly, you can get Diary-era Randy at conversation levels. Your sound man will love you for this feature. Price is $1200 plus actual shipping to the lower 48. The mod alone is $600, so this presents a great value IMO. Payment by USPS Money Order preferred or Paypal (you pay the fees). Almost forgot - the head shell is brand new and so is the logo. If you wanted it to be perfect cosmetically, you only need to put on a new faceplate panel. I'm selling to raise moving funds - there are no issues with this amp. NO TRADES
Bluesking Posted July 5, 2011 Author Posted July 5, 2011 The top right input is for the footswitch. The guts/chassis is original (outside of Bray's mod) - the head box/logo is brand new. It previously had a large box (with custom white tolex & black logo) when I owned it before, but the previous owner switched it out for portability.Bray's Panther Mod was his highest gain mod several years back - it's not crazy Nu Metal gain, more like a modded 80s Marshall when maxed out. There's not a lot of info on this mod, but if you email/call Dave he'll give you the details. The best thing about this amp is that it will do just about any historical Marshall tone with the added flexibility of the built-in boost for solos.Really, you can gig this amp with no pedals at all.Like all tube amps, it sounds best when running hot, but the MV does a great job of approximating that tone at reasonable levels.Put a good LP or SG in front of this amp and you'll be in rock bliss.Somebody buy this before I talk myself out of it.
RobB Posted July 6, 2011 Posted July 6, 2011 The top right input is for the footswitch.Thx, BK. That makes sense. Nothing like an old, linked-up Marshall cranked loud. Wish I could swing this one!Someone snag this!
