Hanging Up A Standard

Question

Posted

I am new to the HFC and have enjoyed reading all the info and checking out all the great pics.

This might be a ridiculous question but wanted to run it by the experts here. I was going to hang my Standard up by the headstock but noticed that the hanger catches the high E string just above the nut. The string lies outside the radius of the headstock on it's way to the tuning peg. It doesn't seem like a good thing to put pressure on the string/nut in that direction but I've seen several pictures of Standards hanging. What do you guys think?

Thank you for the help.

I've got the Hercules wall-mount hanger. The 'e' string does indeed rest on the padding a bit, but it doesn't hurt anything, including tuning. You just have to be careful when hanging/removing your Standard so that nothing gets snagged. I say proceed without fear! :)

Ditto what RobB says. I'm also a fan of the Hercules stuff for security.

When I first saw the Hercules stuff, I was 'meh'. I now have a single (home) and a triple (gigs - no more near-misses with oaf drummers). Great stuff.

Thanks to everyone for your advice. Looks like I'll be on the way to the store to pick up a Hercules.

Sorry I haven't posted any pics yet. I wanted to do it right and haven't gotten around to taking any decent ones yet.

In case anyone is wondering about the fate of the #79 Zandard, I was the one that picked it up from srvwannab.

The guitar was just as described, immaculate, and the transaction was great (very courteous communication and prompt shipping). I love this guitar! Since picking it up, I've been listening to lots of old Cheap Trick and trying to learn how to play some of my favorites. BTW, does anyone know what chord/chords Rick plays when he first comes in after Tom's intro on Speak Now Or Forever Hold Your Peace?

gorch, thanks for the welcome.
