veatch Posted January 19, 2012 Posted January 19, 2012 OK! Wear and tear and being sold originally without a case seem to be the most common, with cat pee being (fortunately) a distant third, and no one having any theft stories to collaborate my initial theory. I'm glad.I had mentioned the Honda Prelude and its seats because I had developed the idea that there was really only one set of missing seats and the guy who owned that car paid a disreputable associate to steal another set of seats which led to that second car needing replacement seats, and so it went down the line in a long daisy chain. There was some chance that something similar was going on with guitar cases. I've tossed two worn out cases, and replaced them with improved OEM variants. If you have a Daytona case (with no cat pee in it) laying around empty, I'd be interested in buying it.Thanks.To muddy the numbers - i've replaced three cases due to cat pee - none of them my cat - all used cases that smelled like something died in them. Ozium wouldn't even help.Either my nose is too fussy (though impartial tests proved that i wasn't imagining things) or i've had some pretty bad luck on cases with used guitars...FWIW - all of the guitars i've bought from here have been fine - and their cases were fine as well... My biggest problems came from eBay.Cue MCChris...
django49 Posted January 19, 2012 Posted January 19, 2012 "My biggest problems came from eBay".So, we are making a "case" for eBay = cat piss.....Works for me, even if I do own a few shares in that outfit.
a.bandini Posted January 19, 2012 Author Posted January 19, 2012 Well, let's just put it all together then: eBay sucks cat pee.
gorch Posted January 19, 2012 Posted January 19, 2012 I've bought my MIK Standard with a Hamer OHSC. Well, I am happy about it, even as I discovered that the Standard Custom comes with a lower quality case.
carfish7 Posted January 19, 2012 Posted January 19, 2012 My latest purchase was a GC deal on a Special FM. I had 2 sales guys swear up and down that it had no case, but they could hook me up with a TKL or something for a good price. I declined both times and just trusted that they would pack it OK for the trip and it was all good (insurance is your friend here). It showed up in a large bass box, and I could feel the item rattling around inside due to a lack of ANY packing material. I braced for the worst and opened the box to find the guitar gently nestled in its OHSC.I can top the cat pee issue, too. I bought a Scecter PT back in the day from a local shop, and when the sales guy brought up the case we found some VERY dry cat TURDS in the case. Meow. Damn cats love the inside of a guitar case! All those cases are being used to house the millions of lost trem arms that are out there.............
gorch Posted January 19, 2012 Posted January 19, 2012 ... Damn cats love the inside of a guitar case! ... Electrifying they are - the cases.
