Chords for Pretzel Logic

Question

Trying to pick out Steely Dan's Pretzel Logic by ear, and i *think* i'm close, but i figured i'd consult the wisdom that is collectively referred to as the H. F. C.

<bu-yah!>

:)

Pretty straight forward up until the chorus. I've tried a *lot* of different things, but i think what sounds the best/closest is:

D/E - E/D - C/D - D/C

D/E - E/D - C/D - Gmaj7

D/E - E/D - C - D - C

I was never good at tab, but i think this is the same (the high E goes on top, right?):

.D/E....E/D....C/D....D/C....D/E....E/D....C/D....Gmaj7....D/E....E/D....C.........D........C

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

--7------9------5------7------7------9------5-------3-------7------9-----5-----5---7--------5--------

--7------9------5------7------7------9------5-------4-------7------9-----5--7------7--9--7--5--------

--7------9------5------7------7------9------5-------4-------7------9-----5---------7--------5--------

--7------5------5------3------7------5------5-------5-------7------5-----3---------5--------3--------

----------------------------------------------------3------------------------------------------------

So, am i in the ditch? Every time i think it's right, it sounds wrong, then i try something else, and end up back with this... I checked out a couple of YouTooobs, but they were worse off than me... :)

Tanx.

Ah, Steely Dan - one of my favorites. I enjoy figuring out interesting songs by ear as well, so I think I can be of help here.

Edit: Nope - no help at all.

I think the Dan is the bomb. I believe they use a Major 2nd or Mu chord alot which is CDEG for a C chord. The root is almost never the bass note (for keys or guitar anyway). Sorry about going OT but SD is great.

I know I have those chords at home on paper (and maybe even in a powertab) but I am working like crazy lately and losing my mind. Maybe I can get tonight.

Someone with good taste must have this information on the tip of their pick, I mean tongue. :P

This is a pretty decent cover... :)

Never cared much for Mr. McD, but the guitarist on this just rips...

The group i'm working with is trying this with no keys - 2 guitars and a sax (plus bass and drums), so i'm trying to fill the chords up as much as i can and let the other guitarist free to fill and rip.

Tnx again...

I try to use different chord voicings to make the overall sound fuller when playing with another guitarist. Learning Dan tunes helps expand the old tool box.

I did look for the chart but couldn't locate and I stopped looking after I saw posts below this one.
