Caddie Posted April 14, 2012 Posted April 14, 2012 Do you have experience with these Planet Waves locking tuners? Your opinion on peformance, quality vs Sperzel locking tuners and Schaller locking tuners. Thanks guys.caddie
Gino Posted April 15, 2012 Posted April 15, 2012 I do recommand Grover locking Rotomatics - the ones with the thumbwheel on the back. I have all three - Sperzels, Schallers and the Grovers. They all are solid and work nicely, but the Grovers have the bigger ratio - 1:18 as opposed to the Schaller's 1:14 and the Sperzel's 1:15 (I think) which translates to greater tuning precision...
backinit Posted April 16, 2012 Posted April 16, 2012 I have 2 sets on strats. They are ok. I'm not thrilled with the auto cut feature. I would rather have the control of cutting the strings when I want not when they tighten. I got smoking deals on both sets. I would give sperzels the edge in quality. If you are paying full price I would go with sperzels.
SteveB Posted April 19, 2012 Posted April 19, 2012 The PW"s work, although I think they are just a shade lower quality than Schallers or Spertzels. The auto cut is nice but not necessary. It works, although I find that for heavier strings I need to advance to the auto cut and tighten into the blade, then back off, and then tighten again to cut. Works better than just trying to cut the heavy strings in one shot.
